Hit the Bitch

Is there anyone here who doesn't find DV abhorrent? If so, I don't want to know...

The perpetrators, obviously.

Its shocking how many people flap their yaps about how bad domestic violence is while looking the other way and blaming the victims for their abuse. It wasn't really something I thought much about until I ended up an injured bystander in a male-on-male DV incident earlier this year.

How has all of that gone, BTW?

Yeah, I do wonder how many closeted (or not-so-closeted) abusers we have here. :( I also can't stand the "blame the victim" mentality.

I know you got really screwed for it but I still think you did the right thing, intervening like you did.

It's not just domestic abuse, it's abuse period. I'm still waiting for society to acknowledge that the five years of constant abuse I suffered was wrong and the attitudes and assumptions behind it unacceptable. I'll probably be waiting the rest of my life.

Society is never going to give you an apology. No matter what happened to you, society largely doesn't care. Sad but true. The most you can do is make peace with it and with yourself, and get on with your life.

Oh don't start me.

I just found out last week the guy got off with a 30 day sentence and a 4 hour seminar on How Not To Hit People When You're Mad. As part of his plea bargain, the City Attorney (the DA rejected the case even though it was a cut-and-dry violent felony situation) dropped the charges against him for what he did to me and as a result I am not entitled to restitution through the criminal court. He was only charged for beating his partner. I was not allowed a Victim's Impact Statement nor was I informed of any of the proceedings or my assailants whereabouts. The police and court silence is a violation of California's 2008 Victim's of Crime Act.

This happened way back in April; I only found out about it now because I stopped existing in the system once the charges were dropped. I was literally ERASED from the case by the people in power and it took months to locate any information at all.

I am pursuing restitution for my injuries and relocation through the civil court, but I have to shell out for it out of pocket and this criminal court fuckery leaves me little to look forward to.

No body did their jobs like they were supposed to, because nobody in the LAPD or LA District Attorney's office considers Domestic Violence or its bystander involvement a serious crime. This applies doubly when the DV situation involves homosexual partners. Laughably, in a beautiful display of how out of touch and negligent the entire system has been toward me, the City Attorney representative recommended I seek counseling for avoiding future violent relationships. HELLO? I AM NOT A DV VICTIM. I AM A VICTIM OF FELONY BATTERY WITH PREMEDITATION AND WITNESS INTIMIDATION. The guy who strangled me was not my partner...I was just the one unfortunate enough to witness it and call the cops.

Oh my God. This is way, WAY over the line. I don't care what point they were trying to make--they failed miserably and should be ashamed of themselves. This sort of thing should NOT be treated in such a flippant manner, either by the makers of this ad or by us. :(

:wtf: Jeez. I guess their hearts are in the right place, but I could see any number of ways a campaign like this could easily backfire or be taken the wrong way.

I gotta agree. The fact they dressed her provocatively is a really big mistake, because this sort of thing will turn some people on (that and the fact it's, of course, staged). As a few have noted, the girl is really hot in this, which is good for the actress, but sabotages the message completely, because it stops being about DV and becomes instead a form of violent porn.

That said, it wouldn't matter if she looked like the back end of a rhino, or if she was 99 years old, there will be people taking this video and using it for their jollies. Worse yet, there's always some chance it'll serve as inspiration to some asshole. (Pardon the language).

The concept is a good one, on paper but frankly unworkable in fact, and probably should not have been attempted, at least not in a live-action format.

im not sure what the point of this is, maybe if I could understand what she said it might be better.
