History of Star Trek having no "money"

Okay, I tried to use a little humor to diffuse this, but that didn't work.

You guys are way off topic, and going in circles.

How about we let this rest?

Entirely your call 1001001 and I'd understand if you did that.

On the other hand I was about to rephrase parts of my case in a way that I had hoped would lead to slightly more meaningful dialogue. It's your shout as to whether that might have legs.

I don't think anyone is arguing that when it first aired there wasn't money.
Would you then agree that Tom Paris's statement that money went away in the late 22nd century doesn't mean Humans stopped using money? That his statement meant something else?
if humans had that law, they themselves would not be eligible for Federation membership
What are you basing this on?

And why would the Federation even have such a admissions rule?

Personally I don't feel that the Members all have to assume a single "Federation culture" upon joining. Earth currently has many hundreds of cultures, will all of them have to (somehow) be erased?

Spot261, if you think we'd explore something as you say more meaningful, please continue.

TOS may have included money when it first ran because its futurism didn't consider changes in future economics, or because did not do so in the way subsequent series did, but that didn't preclude TVH and the rest from retconning. I imagine they had email too, even if all we saw were data discs and PADDs trading hands. If Discovery shows email, or if they do a "Trial and Tribble-ations"-like episode including email (or no money), does that make a difference for you?

Would we accept a new state into the Union that permitted segregation?
