Highlander remake on the way

Agreed as well. I liked the syndicated series best, and I think Endgame did a somewhat reasonable job following up some elements from that. The original film is pretty decent by itself, but the majority of the other films are crap.
 
I have to read all the posts and think on this more, but my first reaction is hesitancy. Yes the sequels were mostly bad, and the first film isn't perfect, but it is a classic. Though the franchise is in need of a refresher, I'd say leave it alone.

Then again, the series got a lot of things right and ran its course, and the Raven was smartly dropped. I don't like any more futuristics or Source mysticism then needs be either, so in many ways, the series does not need to be 'fixed', corrected, or remade.

Having said these, I do feel the concept should always have life. Perhaps reboot, not full out remake is the right way here. Just start fresh with another highlander who's a distant relation and build your own mythos. In this vein, you can make two movies with one actor or a few seasons, then switch to another immortal just like Doctor Who can change it up.

I know a movie that is suppsoed to be big budget and special would be the way everyone wants to go, but I'd rather see another proper series with several new Immortals or reccuring nods to the past series.

We'll just have to wait and see, I suppose. If the original casts and crews come out in protest, then maybe we know which direction this might take.
 
I'd be interested to see what they will do with the character in a new movie.

Nothing could be as bad as Highlander:The Source....I lasted about half an hour of watching this before I turned it off!
 
I like the Highlander concept, but the movies were all average to awful (even the first movie). The series delved the most into the mythology, but there were as many bad episodes as good ones (and were pretty repetitive). Not sure if Justin Lin is the best director to handle this material though.
 
I also think a more tried and true sf or fantasy director would be better.If you are going to do this, then do it right and don't half ass it-that's been part of the problem previously. Again, I think once a script or more cast and crew news comes out, the colors of how previous cast and crew will show a lot. If Lambert and Paul are not welcome to appear or if they refuse to appear, that might put all the writing on the wall needed.

But I agree, redo it properly or let it alone. Another syndicated series able to have its own creative control would be better than a movie reaching for the newly hipped and recruited sf audiences.
 
Way I see it...they remake it, and it rocks, we've got one more really cool movie in the hopper. If not, we still have the original and the TV series.

No worries.

As for why not? Well...got a better idea for revivving the franchise?

Pretty much. The franchise is dead. I've got absolutely no problems with them doing a remake, and I hope they do well with it. If it doesn't turn out to be any good, oh well, it's not like my DVDs of the original movie and the TV series will have suddenly vanished.
 
Here's a new idea. Leave a dead franchise dead and make something original! ;0) I'm a little tired of remakes and reboots. It's like we've maxed out on a 100 years of shows and need to revisit every single thing? What will be remade next? Plan 9 From outer Space?

But there is new stuff coming out. Last year, we got Moon, District 9, Avatar, others.

This year, we've had Book of Eli, Hot Tub Time Machine, more to come.

There will always be original stuff along with the remakes and adaptations.

As a longtime Highlander fan, I'm GLAD they're making another attempt to resurrect this franchise.

Besides...no one is making you go see it.
