Highlander remake on the way

I would like it if they actually cast a Scot to play Connor this time around. It's not a necessity, but it would be nice.

Nope! If there is one thing that the Highlander saga continues to need is casting actors clearly outside of their ethnic group to the point that it nearly breaks suspension of disbelief!

Frenchman as a Scot
A Scot as a Egyptian
An African American as a Japanese Warrior

If the African American as a Japanese Warrior you're referring to was Mario Van Peebles' Kane, I think he was actually a Mongol.

I think if the only "Highlander" that had come out the past couple years was "The Source" I'd say they should really just pack it up and forget it. However, "Vengeance" was actually pretty fun and while hardly revolutionary, it was certainly fun. This glimmer of hope is enough for me to look forward to hearing more about what they plan to do.

The original was lightning in a bottle. Perfection because of its cast, style, and music. Changing all of that will not, IMHO, give us anything but a pale Xerox copy.

I'm also one of those who think the first movie was great, and that everythin after sucked.
" There should have been only one!"

I don't mind a remake of the original though.

My God, a remake of Highlander?! It's fine the way it is. The only thing they could do better is the special effects (and maybe the Scottish accents ;)). They should have learned from The Source that these sequels are killing the credability of the original.

I love Highlander but it does crack me up that a French guy is playing a Scot while a scot is playing a spaniard........with a Scottish accent......:lol:.

Got to love Connery....
Russian Sub commander...with a Scottish accent.
Irish Cop.....with a Scottish accent.
Allan quartermain......with a Scottish accent

Well at least the actor playing the scot highlander was actually standing next to a scot....

With all the horror films of the mid70's to mid80s being remade and talk of a Robocop reboot I knew Highlander was going to come up sooner rather than later. Especially after The Source which I just hear bad things about at every turn. Its about 8 movies down in my Netflix que but I am going to watch it.

The concept is great and its a shame that some franchises stay viable and others have to be rebooted. I'd love a continuation from Robocop 3 somehow and I liked Endgame and thought a good sequel to keep Highlander fresh and viable was a slam dunk. Apparently they had squirrels and chimps doing the script though for nuts and bananas cause everyone says The Source is that bad. I mean even the Nic Cage Wicker Man and AvP franchises have some good publicity and fan acceptance, not The Source though.

I'll stay tuned cause even Batman had to be rebooted and thats turned out pretty well for us.

If they want to do a reboot and make a new franchise, there is one simple rule they have to follow which will eliminate MANY of the problems inherent in the last movie series:

Connor must not win the prize, or finish the movie as the last immortal.

Once he wins, any subsequent movies either have to be prequels or come up with crappy plot contrivances to explain why he isn't really the last immortal.

HL2, anyone? :wtf:

Look, I'm an overall fan of the Highlander mythos. I especially like much, though not all, of the TV series. However, I've gotta say that the first film is among the most overrated I've ever seen. Really, I can only give the first film high marks for the overall concept and the music...okay and maybe for some of the performances. And, yes, the sequels are even more abysmal. My point is, I don't think a decent remake and reinvention of this franchise would be a bad thing, because I submit that we haven't even had a completely decent Highlander movie yet.

I read this and at first, I wanted to trash the idea.

The only thing I'd like to impart on the individuals who are involved in making this is...and I must capitalize in order to drive the point home....

LOOK UP "CONTINUITY" IN THE FUCKING DICTIONARY BEFORE YOU WRITE ANYTHING!!!!

HL suffered most from everything being all over the map. The first movie is gold, but it does have some story flaws. Everything else is perfect though. 2 brought alien planets into it and each movie and TV show convoluted things more and more.

I am most certainly open to a remake of HL so that maybe it could be done with some sanity...cuz face it...Panzer and Davis were insane with some of their story ideas.

But I think it will ultimately suck...cuz it will be all flair and no substance. HL always had some substance even if it was never exploited much. There will be too much emphasis on trench coats, unbelievable sword fights and quickenings that destroy 3 city blocks.

I would love a remake. The first film was mediocre and the series wasnt to bad. The rest of the films were supposed to be in continuity but for some reason had none, they all SUCKED. Of course the filmmakers later said they were seperate, but if they were why always cast the same actors????? or redo parts of Highlander II to make it more incontinuity? I think they were just trying to save face.

I would love a restart of the series with no ties in production, writers, directors or any of the original actors, stories, characters, etc. The old team couldnt do it right after how many tries why should they have another chance? Use the concept only and rework it from there. I have a feeling though that its gonna be crap though if its left up to the old production team of panzer and davis.

I'll second that. One of the reasons I liked "Vengeance" is that it built up a Big Bad and made him hard to beat, so the threat of a powerful Immie was still there. However in the end, MacLeod wasn't necesarily the last - he had just achieved his personal mission.

Sounds great if they can do it well. Too bad Michael Kamen's not around still to do the great score again though :(

The sequels were crap, but the original Highlander movie is a classic and most importantly a product of it's time. Half of what made a movie about immortal guys swordfighting in New York is that fucking Queen was rocking out behind every other fight scene. Can they do that now? No, they're going to hire some nu-metal losers or fucking Nickleback this time.

They need to leave Highlander alone.
