Highlander Reboot - Here We Go Again

Yeah, enjoyable as they were, all the Highlander movies (and the show) were neat ideas that never reached their true potential. As far as I'm concerned, they can take this reboot in any direction they want and I'll still give it a shot. It's not like they've got so much to live up to, so why not experiment a little, think outside the box, come up with something different, etc? I really don't even care if the main character isn't a Highlander at all (though I guess that causes title issues).

After rewatching the first one after years and years I spend about a week cleaning the cheese out of carpet. I say go ahead and knock yourself out with a remake, I'll be there...

Yeah, it was on AMC like 2 weeks ago. It isn't THAT great a movie, it's loaded with really silly stuff.

It's a weird hybrid of brilliant and ridiculous. There's nothing out there quite like it really, its uniqueness is what has given it the legs the original movie has. They just kind of threw loads of really cool stuff together, and hoped for the best. And it just works.

As with Flash Gordon, using Queen was a master stroke, and really helps make the movie something special. Their enduring popularity has also helped drag this movie along with it. A Kind of Magic was a big hit record, and still gets a lot of radio play around the world.

Sure Highlander isn't a cinematic masterpiece but it's enjoyable enough.

There are just so many great, classic lines, beyond "There can be only one..."

"Why Garfield? You cruising for a piece of ass?"
"heh heh.. What kept you?"
"Happy Halloween, Ladies!"

The list goes on and is part of what makes the original a classic... For me, Endgame really really tried to be a worthy follow up, and it almost worked... It deserves a lot of credit for bringing Heather and Rachel back into the mix and expanding the Immortal universe by bringing in the Watchers... But at the same time, Mythos and Joe felt completely shoehorned in.. And... Let's be frank... Lambert barely dialed in his performance... And what was up with his hair???

watching the clip for the Princes of the Universe reminded - hopefully the remake will look better - to me it's like watching an n-generation VHS copy.

unless it was simply a bad copy that was broadcast last time I watched it.

and not quite the movie, but a former neighbour (who's now passed away) worked on the tv series when it filmed in B.C.

I watched the original on VHS (yes, I’m that old :D ) three hours before going to see the second one on opening night (my roommate and I thought the previews looked good and we wanted to be up to speed on the story). Holy shit, what a confusing movie watching experience.

I’ve caught the first one in snippets on TV over the years (always been a big fan of Connery—I even rewatch Zardoz from time to time) but I’ve never revisited the rest of Highlander after that fateful opening night.

Yeah, maybe it's the nostalgia or the sequels just being horrid...but the original Highlander had its problems. Like how even at the end they barely explain what "the Prize" really was. Some reviewers actually thought it was simply becoming mortal again when it's more than that...because the film did a bad job explaining.
