High-powered Tablets: What can you do?

ReadyAndWilling

Fleet Captain
Hi all, I just saw a few quad core CPU's in tablet devices and I just heard about a hex core CPU. What can you use this much power for? I thought tablets were supposed to be for browsing, watching video and music...?
What can you do with a tablet to make use of that much power?

Tablets are quickly becoming the primary computers for people. The more power you have in one the better off you are for doing pretty much anything. Even browsing, watching videos and playing Flash games takes power.

play games,
watch high quality videos.

you know everyday common sort of stuff that's not to hard when you actually think about it.

Not to mention no matter what the operating system, it's still going to need a certain amount of processor grunt just to get it up and running.

I recently saw someone on the subway playing a fully 3D, high-speed game of Grand Theft Auto on his phone. Even I was surprised even modern phones can handle that kind of processing...

Why do I always attract trolls?

Anyway, you can do all of that with a dual core CPU...

The responses you get are in direct proportion to the threads you start. Most of which could be answered by Google.

And anything a dual-core CPU can do, a single-core can also do! But more cores means more things get done in less time, which is the point.

In any case, tablets are replacing desktop computers and even laptops for a lot of people, so it makes sense that their power is increasing as the tasks people use them for are expanded. I'm not a huge fan of this trend but it's obviously happening and I can't do anything about it.

Anyway, one benefit is that now there's a glut of cheap yet reasonably functional tablets on the market, so I'm cool with that.

Interesting how much the pads on Voyager look like ipads with blue covers. Maybe Steve Jobs was a Voyager fan and was inspired.

I don't get it. So ReadyAndWilling makes similar threads on other forums? It's not like we're all forced to post only on a single site. :p
