Hey, I never noticed that before....

I heard somewhere that was why Data wasn't the science officer on TNG, the blue uniform would've looked bad with his makeup. It's probably more likely that the decision not to have a science officer was an earlier choice as part of the "don't do TOS again" ethos, same with not having an engineer.

That's interesting and something I've long wondered about. I figured the lack of a dedicated science officer on TNG was due to some decision that by the TNG era, most Starfleet offficers had evolved into scientists. This lack of a specific senior science officer sort of continued; although Jadzia was nominally the science officer on DS9, the writers didn't really use her that way very often. And then on Voyager, both the captain and the XO were former science officers, the operations officer and engineer were pretty conversant with science concepts, as was the visiting-then-permanent former Borg, and so on.

Not sure if I've mentioned this here, but:

Less I never noticed but more that I never made the connection:
ALICE 118: We are programmed to function as human females, lord.
CHEKOV: You are?
ALICES: Yes, my lord.
CHEKOV: Harry Mudd programmed you?
ALICES: Yes, my lord.
CHEKOV: That unprincipled, evil-minded, lecherous kulak Harry Mudd programmed you?
ALICES: Yes, my lord.
CHEKOV: This place is even better than Leningrad.

with

KIRK: All right, here we are, birds in a gilded cage. The question is, how do we get out of here?
CHEKOV: I don't know, sir, but it's a very nice gilded cage.

Watching "Corbomite Maneuver" . Man, the costuming was a bit rough in that one. The black parts of the collars were all over the map. From Kirk's tiny strip to Spock's fat one. Still a stellar example of what Star Trek is.

There was a lot of reuse of the pilot uniforms in the early episodes. You can see some were cannabilized to conform to the series designs. One of the telltales would be the split in the cuffs. It did take a few episodes to get everything looking nice. Kirk's tunic zipper is very evident in some episodes.

I don't recognize the bottom image, but the top one could be a likeness of Robert Justman. What TAS ep is that from? Also, a crewman wearing glasses? I never noticed it. He has the wrong insignia for that shirt, btw.
Very common in TAS, I believe.

Also, love the Magic School Bus reference.

My wife made an interesting observation tonight while watching "FERENGI LOVE SONGS".

Ferengi datapads and contract pads... they are shaped like coffins. She took it as it can be deadly to enter into a deal with a Ferengi.

It's especially obvious they are shaped like a coffin when Quark holds one close to his chest. She was right!

In all my years and times of rewatching, I never saw that. As a horror fan, I feel ashamed that I didn't see it. (She is also a big horror fan.)

Not Trek related, but I've long thought the phrase "Kirby Crackles", normally used to describe the distinctive flares of energy as drawn by comic book artist Jack Kirby, sounds rather like a breakfast cereal.

That you came up with this list is both hilarious and terrifying.
