Hey, I never noticed that before....

I remember the line: "Like all the rest. Seared to a crisp." I guess I got the wrong character. It was still a miner, I think. Schmitter was in gold, the second guy in pink, maybe?

Poor Schmitter was burned to a crisp, but other guys were seared to a crisp. ;)
VANDERBERG: Schmitter. Like the rest of them. Burned to a crisp.
...
VANDERBERG: ... Our maintenance engineers sent down to the drifts to repair the corroded machinery. We found them seared to a crisp.

Horta Kills: Schmitter (wearing orange) was the first guy seen killed, followed by some unfortunate miner guard (wearing orange), and lastly killed, one of our own security red shirts. :weep:

Not sure if this was said before, but remember that episode "The Empath"? The sofa Jem (but not the Holograms) laid on is the same shape as the Agonizer that was deftly applied to Chekov:

Chekov is wearing the standard issue one on his left side - belt buckle.

1:53 in - Woomp, there it is! :D

Might have been an early example of an easter egg hunt or callback or foreshadowing of what the episode was about to do, the moment they introduce Jem (but not the Holograms).

So, what I'm seeing here is the Horta doesn't like blonds.

Even as a coincidence, that's a great find. And I think it was unintentional, arising from the fact that Matt Jefferies could only think up so many futuristic shapes before repeating himself. If the couch was a deliberate callback, that would be really remarkable, a big "learn something new" moment.

That general shape does crop up a few times

Thanks. :) I don't think it was intentional, TOS was even limited when referring to previous episodes' content, and for the sake of more than a callback.

The design as a sofa does look cool regardless, especially as a designer couch you might see at a pub or elsewhere.

Kyle is a notorious division hopper. He's even been in blue. Though that might have been Cowell
My old, dusty memory remembers him in the red coveralls, a red uniform and a gold. But not blue. Unless I'm missing another version of coveralls.
