Hey, I never noticed that before....

The detail on the rank stripes in "The Cage" and "Where No Man...".

If I were to ret-con this, I'd say that Pike was a commander during the time of the Cage. Many naval ship c/o are cmdr or Lt-cmdr, but addressed as "captain". That would, in retrospect, explain the different rank stripe scheme.

Okay, I obviously have too much free time on my hands.

Just watching 'Shore Leave' right now.

Right before Kirk meets Finnegan for the first time, look to the left of Kirk. In the background behind some trees I can see the brown colored vertical and horizontal beams of a shed or small building.

The incredibly bad sewing around the front of the left side of the opening on Kirk's green tunic in "The Doomsday Machine." Yes it's visible on the DVDs, but it just jumps out at you on the Blu-Rays.

This would work for Kirk in the second pilot too, Kirk getting promoted to the rank of captain immediately following the ship's return.

I guess that makes sense, but as I've stated before, I don't find the totality of his decisions and judgement in the event really warranting that promotion. Well, at least he managed to not have to destroy his own ship, unlike the Valiant's commander. But Mitchell might very well have accomplished that task for him, if not for Kirk being fortunate enough to be able to get through to Dehner while there was still time, probably not much though.

When Elaan (of Troyus) went into the bathroom, her costume was coming apart. Then when she came out, it was fixed.
Of course, it couldn't have been a bathroom, since the only one on the Enterprise was behind the bridge screen.

Yes--there are a couple of shots where you can see some small thatched-roof "African" huts. Folks might or might not remember that the TV show "Cowboy in Africa" filmed at the "Africa U.S.A." location where "Shore Leave" was shot.

Not at all surprising as I started to notice some of this in the previous DVD remastering. That's where I also started to discern the infamous and hotly debated gridlines penciled onto the saucer hull. It was with the DVDs I also finally saw the texturing and detail of many of the costumes.

That's a detail I had no idea about, but it makes sense since plain wide silver (or gold) striping seems rather blah.
Yes the ranks could have been a little more interesting but pips aren't that fun either and even less noticeable.

Yea, a pity they couldn't put that level of effort into the TOS era bridge on a regular basis, but given the budget and time contstraints it's not surprising.
Yes, they didn't have much money so it is understandable that they had to cut back and save in the long run on the quality of bth set and costume. The acting though is for the most part quite good and we see many characters placed as a comic relief.

I didn't know that was shot there. Now I wanna go visit.

In "The Cage", right after Number One fails to blast open the Talosians' rock fortress with the phaser cannon, there is a final shot of her before the scene ends. The rock on her left has a nail in it. I'm sure it might be a leftover from the 'survivors' camp, but it still looks out of place. Didn't the camp disappear completely?!?

I remember that show. The other African based show, "Daktari", with Marshall Thompson, was interesting, too.
Yeah, THAT SHOW!!! It did run for three seasons, but the brilliant suits on CBS cancelled the 4th season of LIS for this epic, that had so much steam left in it, that it apparently averaged a mighty 9.0 in the Nielsens' and made it all the way to January, before being given the heave ho!!! Dumb CBS bastards!!!!!
It is interesting to note however, that Judy and Debbie were played by the same remarkable simian!!! What a chimp!!!!:techman:

In WNMHGB, Scott drops a white electronics module into one on the bridge station panels. He then calls Kelso down on Delta Vega. Right in front of Kelso is the same console. Maybe it's just a coincidence....
