Hey, I never noticed that before....

I know it's a Vulcan technique, but i wonder if humans can learn to do the neck pinch. That might have stopped Spock temporallily.:vulcan:

Didn't Picard do it once after his mind meld with Sarek? Or am I imagining things?

Memory Alpha says that Picard did do the nerve pinch in an episode (Starship Mine) and also ST:Nemesis.

Jonathan Archer also could do the pinch, when he was carrying Surak's katra.

Seven of Nine did it in at least one VOY episode, I think.

Really? That's too bad. So much for Leonard Nimoy's theory that Vulcans can do the neck pinch partially because of an energy they can conduct through their fingertips.

^Thank you, J.T.B, for taking the time and effort to post those screen caps. You just earned a promotion to Starfleet Command Admiral.

Man, J.T.B. should change his screen name to "Zapruder Film." ;)

Really? I thought that Nimoy's original pitch for the nerve pinch was that Spock has made a detailed scientific study of the human nervous system, and as such knew exactly which points of the body to press in order to induce unconsciousness.

I subscribe to the theory that it's the neck; it's next to the head, therefore the "pinch" is actually a low-level mindmeld used to incapacitate.

I recall this being a fannon concept prior to TNG, may have also been a lit-verse explanation.

I liked that idea too. Since there is no actual way to harmlessly put a person to sleep with a tiny pinch, it's a shame that subsequent shows had non-telepathic humans and an android do the trick. I mean, if Picard and Data can both do it, then it is just an application of physical force, and that makes it pure baloney (unlike Vulcan telepathy, which is based on solid imaginary scientific baloney).

Is my memory playing tricks on me, or did Spock do it with a horse in Star Trek V? I'm not about to re-watch the movie for that.

Yes, unless we're both imagining the same thing.

I actually used to think it was a mind meld quickie - not a nerve pinch. But he does go for the neck alright.

But I can a see nerve pinch with a horse. Spock with his coming-of-age rituals whilst a young lad, outwitting various beasts in the hostile desert.

Maybe that's part the curriculum. Y'now giving snakes, vulcan boars and..um..threatening horses the old nerve pinch treatment.

Well, it works for me.
