Hey, I never noticed that before....

In Operation Annihilate!, McCoy comes on the bridge to show Kirk the tentacles he removed from Spock. Uhura is clearly seen seated behind Kirk. When Spock enters the bridge and fights the crew, another lady is at Uhura's communication station. Kirk and Spock both have stunt doubles in this screencap. Maybe Uhura needed one, too.

Maybe she got up for a potty break.

Exactly how many computers has Kirk killed? I can remember Landru and Vaal but is that all?

Mudd's android army in 'I, Mudd'. Do they count?
I'd consider that a group effort.

Also Dr Korby's androids.
Yes, I agree. Kirk more or less took care of Ruk, Andrea, and his duplicate. He thought, talked, and kissed them into crashing and burning in some way or other. When it came to Corby, that was mainly Christine and what was left of Corby himself.

Hah! Only Scotty (James Doohan) and Sulu (George Takei) were man enough to be on set when the punches started flying! :techman:

She's a cutie pie! Seems more suited for a face-to-camera career than (probably) most stunt women.

In an unrelated matter, I'm watching "Arena" on MeTV, and right before Kirk boxes the Gorn's ears, you can see that the Gorn has nose hairs sticking out. I've NEVER seen that before.

Just saw that too. It really creeps me out that the Gorn now blinks his eyes.
That and the magic space beings gave Kirk a shower and his clothes a wash before sending him back to the bridge.

If they could have taken the time to match the dirt on Shatner's face and uniform, that would have been a great touch.

I had to confirm that the nose hair was not CGI. It didn't think it was, because the hairs are very fine. I doubt if they were ever visible at all on a standard CRT tube TV:

I notice the command tunic in sunlight is more avocado. And I see a white lining to Kirk's sleeve in the second pic.

I can only see it in that one shot. Maybe something got stuck one of the nostrils between takes? It just seems like an odd choice to have hairs coming out of a hairless reptile, especialy given how unlikely it would be to be visible on TVs at the time.

The online images are not as clear as the HD broadcast. Before Kirk boxes his ears, you can clearly see these fine, distinct nostril hairs sticking out of the Gorn's nose. Later in the show, other close-ups don't seem to have them. We know it's in the original (it's not CGI), so I think it was a delicate special touch applied to the costume that fell out during the rough-and-tumble location shoot.

It's also an odd choice for a reptilian creature to have faceted compound eyes!

Actually I can understand why the costume designer (I believe it was Wah Chang) went with the insectoid eyes. A lizard-like eye would have been a difficult effect to pull off convincingly.

We are now discovering that Dinosaurs may have more in common with birds and chickens that actual reptiles, maybe The Gorns have traced their ancestry back to bug-eyed hexapod invertebrates than Crocodyllidae perhaps as well?
