Hey found the UNIT helipad

The studio has a UNIT helipad painted on the roof, immediately west of that is a place called Silurian Park all in Cardiff I think

That's not on the roof of the studio, it's in the parking lot behind the studio, no doubt a set piece they built there for a helipad scene. They probably put up a greenscreen behind it when they filmed.

Oh OK I thought that was a building there.... Still cool I think

Silurian Park is maybe not a reference to the series. The Silures were the pre-Roman tribe who lived in that area, and the era is named because the first fossils from then were found on the hence-named Silurian coast.

Oh, good catch. That makes more sense.

My personal theory, not supported by canon, is that the tribe got their name from a contact with the reptile people.

Except Earth Reptiles don't call themselves Silurians (except in "Warriors of the Deep"). It was the Doctor who coined the name, based on Dr. Quinn's profound mis-dating of their period of origin. Although there's a 2020 monster-guide book that claims it's their real name and humans called them that by race memory, which doesn't make sense given that it wasn't a human coinage.

They do call themselves Silurians in Warriors, post-2011 episodes, and one nods when the Pertwee Doctor asks 'Are you a Silurian?' The onscreen evidence does suggest that this is their name for themselves, whatever The Sea Devils says (though Sea Devils is definitely a human slur).

Well, since the TARDIS (or the television) translates alien speech for our benefit, we can't assume that the words we hear are actually the words the aliens are using. (Which is how I reconcile Susan's coinage of TARDIS with other Time Lords' later use of the term. I figure we're just hearing the English translation of the Gallifreyan name.)

Anyway, back on topic, I tried to search for information on Silurian Park to see if I could find out how long ago it was named, but I couldn't find any in-depth information on it. Anybody got an old paper map of Cardiff?
