Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDANCE!

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

Seeing the station at angle makes me think "did Starfleet also rebuild Empok Nor?" Bad joke, I know.

Speaking of covers, does anyone know how long before June we're likely to first see the cover of Sacraments of Fire?

It has been posted today by startrek.com:

And how wonderfully uninspired it is too.

 I like it. The head formed out of the nebula material (or whatever) like a presence looming over the station is nice imagery.

(Is that Iliana? I *think* it is, and it would probably make sense based on the title, but I'm not entirely sure...)

^ Not really "confused", just shorthand for "I don't know, I liked it, YMMV" type phrasing, is all. Basically, I don't agree with your assessment, but I realize mine might be the minority opinion.

Never had to justify the use of a smiley before...

That's the wonderful thing about opinions, not everyone holds the same opinion about things, especially things of an arty nature - beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all.

At the end of the blurb it says that Sacrements of Fire is only 304 pages. That's the shortest DRG3 book i've ever seen advertised!

^ Well, yes, but enjoy reading that 5-point font! ;)

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

Well, I like the idea that things from that period could resonate in the current timeframe, so I'm okay with that.

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

That works.

While we're at it, the epigraph of Revelation & Dust is, in fact, a pretty blatant clue. Which flew over my head completely...

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

If I read David R. George III correctly, he seemed to confirm to me today on Twitter that Ascendance will be a post Sacraments of Fire novel which will be flashing back to the events after The Soul Key, not simply set in the DS9 time-jump gap.

Great...

I've been saying for ages now, that's exactly what I DIDN'T want from this... I don't particularly care for that style of narrative. I wanted to see this get it's own chance to shine, rather than sharing space with the current ongoing storyline.

I'm not saying I won't read it, or that I won't enjoy what I get, but this was so very much not what I wanted to see with this story...

This is exactly what I hoped for. Looking forward to this. I like the art, can't wait to see what DRGIII has come up with!

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

Further clarification from David today leaves with the conclusion (which I'm still not taking as 100% for sure) that the novel is in fact simply a direct followup to The Soul Key, not an extended flashback, but that his suggested reading order is publication order, not chronologically.

I'm thinking about The Good That Men Do and The Eugenics Wars specifically, both set with a framing story (the latter being more of a story than the former.

However in those framing stories are entirely self contained stories - you could easilly ignore the framing ones (especially in the good that men do - I think it was basically "Jake and Nog have a coffee".

On the other hand Full Circle didn't have a framing story, but jumped around a fair bit.

From the TV Side, "Carbon Creek", or "11:59" were independent stories set in a framing story of "Trip, TPol and Archer have a meal", or "Janeway has no idea about history"

I think it's too early to say how

Some of the early DSN novels had the station angled; I guess this is a allusion to the fact that this is a new start for DS9.

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

I missed out on the opportunity to own/read any of the DS9 novels between Unity and Zero Sum Game, so this whole time-jump thing has never really bothered me, although I'll take all the DS9 I can get since it's my favorite Trek series.

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

I've been looking forward to reading new Ds9 stories and it's great we're getting new stories under the ds9 banner again.:bolian:

You can still get a hold of them pretty easily. They're all available as e-books, and the paperbacks can be found pretty cheap on the Amazon Marketplace.

Is the entity on the Ascendance cover the
creature that attacked Odo ?
