He's "not an avid Star Trek fan"?

My major request here is that gastrof stop triple-posting. I Am Not A Mod, but please try to either edit your posts to add to them, or see that you are responding to multiple posts in a single omnibus posts. It's just polite...

Why, thank you so much for telling me how to make replies in the thread I started, even tho' I've never heard of there being any rules on not replying to individual posts separately!

As for being polite, again, if there are no established rules then good manners aren't being violated...

...except maybe when someone insists on their personal feelings being the basis for "rules"?

Making sure it's Star Trek is a sure way to drive away the mainstream audience who wants to see a MOVIE!.
Then perhaps Star Trek should stick to the small screen, and leave the MOVIE theaters for other fare.

Personally, I'm not too excited about seeing a new MOVIE, but I would like to see some new and good Star Trek.

I agree!

Cancel the movie! Move to tv!

Wait a minute...

The Phase II movie was cancelled, then The Phase II tv series was cancelled.

TMP, TWOK, TSFS, TVH, then TNG were made.

Let's do that again!

Gene Roddenberry is alive and well. His initials are JM. Does anyone know who I'm talking about ? Gastrof ?

There ARE specific rules. Please go to the board rules and review the TrekBBS's definition of "spamming." Granted, it's hard to FIND the rules with the current organization of the BBS, but they ARE there and you were supposed to have read them and agreed to them when you created your account.

The cliff's-notes version of the TrekBBS definition of "spamming" includes making a string of individual posts instead of a single consolidated post. I got a friendly warning for that myself, way back when I first joined the BBS. It was even in a thread I'd started! I thought it was a bit silly, but I've come to understand why it's a rule now.

I realize that you're pissed at being "corrected" but that was a very polite "suggestion" and didn't warrant a "how dare you?!?!?" response. As stated by the prior poster, I also am not a moderator. The thing is, if the moderator says this to you, it would constitute a "warning" as opposed to us, who are merely trying to be HELPFUL TO YOU!

Please take a step back and think about why you're reacting negatively to something that was in no way an insult or an attack, and responded WITH an attack of your own.

I think you're a bit too sensitive, personally.

Well, I used to be one, and as Holdfast, TBonz and Spiff said I could act like one in the absence of another and/or when I wished, I shall say the following.

You're all overreacting, so there you go. Gastrof: It's evolved as etiquette here to group all your quotes and respond to each accordingly in one post. Although I doubt if you have been making germane, substantial posts separately that you'll incur a warning.

Thanks. Mods, my cheque will be in the mail as per usual?

Get the right actors, writers and directors and the characters of Kirk and Spock transcend Shatner and Nimoy.

One would hope so. It's just that these characters have been synonymous with the actors portraying them for so much longer than other icons such as Superman or Bond that leads to the anxiety seen here.

I was going to say something earlier, as I had noticed you posting a lot in a row. I didn't however, that's my bad.
A quote from the rules:
Spamming - You can't post the same thing multiple times on the board, or post the same thing over and over in a certain thread or forum, or continuously make posts that have no real content or relevance to what is being discussed. Spamming can even just be posting too much - as a general rule, don't post more than two or three threads in a forum within a reasonable length of time. Do not post more than twice in a row in the same thread. If you need to answer more than one person in the thread, please use the quote function.LINK
So if you would please comply it would be appreciated.

As for everybody else complaining: USE THE MOD NOTIFY FEATURE, PLEASE. It's function is to let the mods know when there is a potential problem, so people don't have to get all pissy at each other and drag threads off topic. USE IT.

Starman you can have half my check for the month from this place. Don't spend it all in one place. :)

Look, I'm sorry, stupid question from someone who ought to know this after seven years on-and-off at the BBS, but...

We have a mod notify feature here? Where's that at?

The mods seem to have settled our PM discussion, gastrof. I hope no hard feelings.

At the bottom of each post, it's the sheet of paper that's crossed through with the circle around it. It should be the third symbol from the left.

Holy zod! The buttons I always ignored!

I'll refrain from the temptation to test it on you. Thanks, archeryguy.

All of this while Roddenberry is booted out of his own universe by an uber nerd. It has becom JJ Abrahms Starship saga, which could still be good - great, but I am expecting Armageddon again, which is one of my all time favorite movies.

JM is the directorial Roddenberry, unfortunately the writing Roddenberry has not yet emerged and with TPTB good luck finding him.

If I thought this new Star Trek movie would remind me of Armageddon in any way, I'd write off Star Trek forever, right now. Please don't even mention that movie in these forums. :(

Armageddon was a half-decent "popcorn movie" which was utterly ruined for me by the incredibly bad "science" used throughout the film. This probably didn't affect the majority of the audience as much as it did me, but the moment I saw the way that they'd @#$*ed up the "centripetal gravity" on the space station, I was thrown COMPLETELY out of the picture... it ceased to be something I could get into and became something I could only mock. The rest of the movie didn't improve things much... though that was BY FAR the most egregious example. Anyone who took HIGH SCHOOL PHYSICS would know why that was so horrible... and it was obvious that no one on the film's production team had ANY knowledge, even a "high school" level one, of science.

It showed.

Fortunately, Abrams and Co. have hired on a NASA scientist as science advisor, much as was done for TMP. As long as they let her see everything and listen to her comments, we should be safe from any "Armageddon-level" debacles, at least on the science side.
