"Heros" "Trek"

I was watching HEROES and well...I couldn't help but see the TOS elements in the story as well as the actions....

And no, I don't think this thread should be in the HEROS's thread because, to me, its about TOS...here goes..

The plot of Heroes, right now, seems to be inspired by Space Seed. They want to creat a race of superhumans to take over and rule the world. The only problem we are seeing with this? Is that power corrupts absolutely. Which, to me, was Space Seed's message.

And then, the best part? When Sylar comes close to camera, and with his eye practially popping through the screen, he raises his eye brow: JUST like spock. I was blown way by the gesture..it was so right there...

Back to Space seed...creating a race of supermen was an interesting idea, but we saw where it led. Julian Bashir nearly got drummed out of the service...but I can't believe that with the advancement of DNA studies in our time, that three+ years ago it would taboo to enhance a child's weaknesses. In fact, I bet it will be common place in the fifty years...

I'm not saying its a good or bad idea...I'm saying that it will be done regardless.

Since Quinto (the actor playing Sylar) is also playing Spock in the new movie, the eyebrow might have been a nod to scifi fans of all flavors.

I don't know about the connection between the two, tho', since Space Seed seemed to be saying that the normals triumph in the end, and supermen are a needless anomaly.

HEROES (there's a second "E", by the way) has always seemed to present their "supermen" as existing alongside the rest of humanity, and as making a difference (even if in some cases it's a bad one).

But this week that changed. It seems to me as if Arthur wants to use these Marines as a tool to 'take over' the world. In fact, the debate between Peter and Nathen is along those lines as well. Nathen seems to think, as his father, that the world would be best ran by those with powers...I guess you could say it is borrowing that theme from the Xmen movie...Nathen is in line to be president. For all we know, Arthur may want to make all the leaders of the world Enhanced humans...

I see it reflecting more X-Men personally, though without an optimistic camp representing Xavier.

Opening this I actually thought it'd be more about Hiro's Trek references ;)

George Takei's character (Hiro's dad) had this license plate on his limo: NCC 1701.

Yeah, that was cool...And now we have MICHAEL DORN on Heroes..and Takei in the same episode? AND Future Spock (Quinto)??? Its a star trek reunion show...

Rob

Micheal Dorn what?! I missed last weeks Heroes and am catching up tonight - if thats a sign of things to come, I'm a little more excited for it :D

Yep..Dorn is playing...get this...the BLACK president of the USA...hmmmmm...I wonder what that is all about!!! Cant wait for more. BUT NOT UNTIL FEB 1!!
