While Matt made Sylar think he was Nathan, y'all are forgetting that Sylar's body has been using the memory absoprtion power to "build" Nathan's soul. His office is filled with stuff to "help him remember", as well as Angela providing things as well.
What?!? :D You can't "build" a soul. Either it exists or it doesn't. Only God can "make" a soul, which mortals can neither create nor destroy.

The fact that the original explanation for Nathan's self was memories absorbed from objects argues against the notion that Sylar ever had any authentic aspect of Nathan in his noggin. It was a sham, but now it's real? WTF? :rommie:
Theologically, i agree with you. But if in the Heroes universe, Sylar can "take over" Matt's brain, then "new Nathan" is surely possible.

i mean, a long shot for sure, and it seemed to be working for a while...but it couldn't last. Peter's an optimist, and his mother...well she's just off her rocker...lots of trauma form the end of the Company?

This situation reminds me of the season 2 Highlander episode with Geraint Wyn Davies potraying an immortal who is overwhelmed by the "spirit" of another immortal he killed, taking him on as a multiple personality.

However, though, doesn't this (Sylar living) keep the future from season 2 still alive, with Sylar becoming President through Nathan?
Messy, but makes sense to me.

If The Haitian was around, then Peter would have to kill Sylar the old fashioned way
Have Rene nerf Sylar's powers and then Peter just shoots him in the head. If both Rene and Peter managed to surprise Sylar, I don't see what would be so hard about doing that. Or Peter gloms Rene's powers and just does the whole job himself. It would crack me up if that's how they finally kill Sylar in the end.

Has Peter been any good at killing anyone (with powers or otherwise)? Even though he was "only" a paramedic, he seems the kind of guy that'd take the Hippocratic oath anyway.

When Sylar is in his Nathan mode, I do think that's a different person - not Nathan, and not Sylar. The problem is that Peter seems to think he's Nathan, and he's not. It would be more sensible and show greater maturity on his part if Peter could learn to accept this new guy as not his brother, but also not as a serial killer who should be hunted down and killed. Even if the new guy isn't Nathan, he could become an interesting character in his own right..

As for whether Peter really has the killer instinct...good question. Can't recall a lot of examples (or any!) when he's actually killed anyone. Wouldn't it be a kick in the pants if he actually had a shot at killing and Sylar and simply couldn't do it? :rommie:

^ The main problem as I see it is that the Sylar personality will always be there, ready to pop up at any time. Just like last week. Until the writers decide that they really could kill him off the merry-go-round will continue, and you just know they'll keep doing the Nathan/Sylar switcheroo again and again. And it's already long past it's sell-by date.

If "Nathan" is to stay on the show, for feck's sake separate him from Sylar as was mentioned earlier on in the thread...

If it's via Eli's power, even that wouldn't be definitive. How do we know we don't just have two Sylars as a result, one who happens to look and think like Nathan at that particular point and the other who happens to look and think like Sylar? Killing the second guy won't stop the first one from reverting to Sylarhood at some point in the future.

But I betcha these writers would pull that stunt for the series finale and call it good. Sylar and Peter live happily ever after, the end. :rommie:
