Another Kring start strong, end weak offering... shame. Had some good elements, but ran out of gas something awful.

Maybe they were built in the present and moved forward in time.
That was a good finale, although it could have been better. There needed to be a more specific justification for using Noah as the conduit. I don't see any dramatic justification for his death-- quite the opposite, because he has become the focal character and the second season would have been hard to pull together without him. If it had been me, I would have used Erica. She was a character that needed redemption. Or, perhaps even better, Quentin.
Luke's demise, on the other hand, was dramatically satisfying, because of his crimes. I had been wondering all along, from a story point of view, why there were two flares. There had to be a point to it and there it was. Luke and Joanne's story was a sad one and there was no way it could, or at least should, end well for either. At least Luke accomplished something.
Nathan's ability to be in two places at the same time was a nice twist, foreshadowed when his mom told him that his powers were even greater than Hiro's and he asked, "What does that even mean?" Well, there you go.
Poor Malina. It seemed like she was kneeling there forever, screaming in pain as she tried to douse the flare. The beam of white light that dissipated it was kind of arbitrary, though, even if it was visually striking. It would have been nice if, as I speculated earlier, it had been somehow a combination of their two powers that allowed Nathan to move either the Earth or the flare through time. Since her powers were nature based, I would have used Nathan's powers to age the flare and Malina's powers to control the aging of its constituent elements into water, so that the scene ended with a cleansing rain. That would have been aesthetically satisfying from a story point of view, and also would have helped put out all those fires.
Anyway, it was a good season. Not as good as Heroes season one, but better than any of the other seasons. It's a shame that it was not renewed, but really, without Noah, my desire for a second season is greatly diminished.

Regarding the speculation that the father is Sylar, that is probably the most likely explanation considering that Nathan's powers are the same. I must admit though that I completely forgot Sylar was revealed to be a Petrelli and that he ended his evil villain/good guy/evil villain roller coaster on the side of good by the end of the series.
Didn't they establish that he wasn't a Petrelli after all? My memory is vague, and it was hard to keep up with the roller coaster of character changes when the show originally aired.
He wasn't. Arthur Petrelli claimed to be his father, but that was a lie. Sylar's biological father was named Samson Gray. Claire, however, was the biological daughter of Nathan Petrelli -- which would mean that if Sylar had been Arthur's son, he'd be Claire's uncle.
Argh, I am misremembering the convoluted history. Claire was the Petrelli but Sylar was eventually revealed not to be a Petrelli at all, I think. I tried looking through the threads online but they are just as convoluted as the series.
Wikipedia didn't help me much, but I went to the Heroes Wiki, which has lists of characters' relatives in their individual entries.
This was on the DVR and I did a few marathon views to watch it in fairly quick chunks and finished it up last night. Overall I felt it was a solid show. It's clear how he reused a number of elements for this 'Reborn' but overall I found it worth my time to watch.
Kring left open threads to pull on for a second season of HR, how were the ratings overall for this? I've seen a site report that it's not going to happen and another leave the continuation open.

Kring still said after this announcement that he is pushing for a way to do the next installment.
SyFy seems like a logical place...they could/should also do Marathons to promote it...
I think that during the last episode, I saw one of those annoying animated pop-up ads on the bottom of the screen promoting something called Heroes: Gemini, so I guess that game was made.
