Heroes cancelled!

Can't say that I'm disappointed, as I ain't. The last season I lost interest after 6 episodes. But reading Greg Grunberg's twitter now.

How did it end? I can't remember. Oh yeah, Claire "outed" them as Heroes and the public finally knew the truth about their abilities.

Hmmm.... that actually might have been worth watching. Too little too late, I guess.

The very end of the last episode and the beginning of the new volume, "Brave New World" piqued my interest. Now I'm mildly disappointed that we won't see it play out. Up until that point, I didn't care if this show got cancelled.

Oh well, at least I'll have an hour of my life back.

I didn't watch Heroes' fourth season, but I did watch the finale with my roommate.

I thought that ending was perfect. Leave it up to the viewers' imagination what happens next after Claire revealed herself. Having any sort of a conclusion after that would probably be disappointing... especially with THESE writers.

I can't wait for the E! true Hollywood Story.

maybe if they'd done as much coke as the Alf writers they would have stood a chance?

Ha! Willy. That reminds me of how miserable Alf ended. This light hearted 80s comedy about a mischevious alien and a suburban family... a cliffhanger where he was captured by the alien task force and the show was canceled unexpectedly.

Then, a made for TV movie with none of the original cast and at the end of that Alf was STILL under lock and key at the alien task force.

It's no wonder Max Wright (as Willie Tanner) ended up smoking crack and having gay sex with homeless dudes. That kind of eerie sadness and cosmic unbalance takes it's toll.

Erm... what were we talking about? :)

Well, the article linked also mentioned that NBC is leaving the door still open for a possible movie-wrap up or some sort of special.

I can see NBC green lighting something like that for November or February sweeps.

even though i didn't hate s2 and 3 like everyone else, i did get to a very 'meh' place during s4 and i am now totally Meh.

even the appeal of watching Hayden wore off.

i'm still pissed they never brought back Muscle-memory girl from S2 though.

What the hell?

Alf Loves a mystery?

But now, just for kicks, because my infatuation of Mayim Bialik has been resurrected by her recent guest spot on til death last week, I think I'll go download the Alf episode of Blossom.

In 20 years, unlike some shows, no one will still be talking about Heroes.

I think the lowest point in Max Wrights life, the new lowest pint in Max Rights life, was ever day he returned to the set of Friends for another dirty paycheck.

Anne (Kate, the wife, silly.) Scheden was so dreamy. 5 years older than my mother but simply scrumptious. Oh, she did an Incredible Hulk... AS A MAGICIANS ASSISTANT!!??! Now there's no way between the spangles, glitter, showing all that leg and possibly feathers that that wouldn't be inconsolably HOT.

In 30 years NO ONE is going to still be talking about Heroes.

I have a confession to make:cardie::
I havent seen any episodes of this series:alienblush::shifty::vulcan:
I know what is it about and so on..but I watch most of the stuff I watch from DVD these days.
Is it a good show? and should I pick it up on DVD?:)

@JRS - watch season one, it's one of the best first seasons any show has ever had in my view. Then stop.

My DVD collection is going to get some more exercise - no more Lost, 24 or Heroes.

It's easy to see the wasted potential in this show when you realize BSG ran for four seasons, too. Regardless of opinions about the finale, that show went somewhere and generally didn't waste every episode on nonsense.

For me, Heroes will always be a great season (and a half) followed by a shitload of wasted potential. :(

Ugh. Finally. I promised myself I'd watch until the end, and I'm so glad that I don't have to watch any more. I wish I'd jumped ship after season 2 went south.

Heroes is the epitome of a show that started out very strong, but soon after did "something" that turned fandom against it. The first season is almost universally considered fantastic, so it at least is worth checking out. Problem was in the second year the show began to branch out and add new characters and do digressions and the like -- you know, the stuff Lost has been doing for years, but for whatever reason a lot of people thought Heroes shouldn't.

I thought the show was fine, though the fact it was on borrowed time was pretty clear when it barely got renewed for a fourth season. By then it was running on fumes and SF/F fandom in general had abandoned it. Which is sad but fans are fickle. I expect them to turn on a dime with Doctor Who before long, too, and we already saw them do it with Star Trek on TV (though it wasn't quite a "turn on a dime" situation there, but just as with Heroes the Trek franchise at one point turned from beloved son to bastard stepchild who offended everyone, even though it didn't cost most viewers a thin dime to watch).

The impression I get from both the rejection of Heroes, and what appears to be a general "just end it already" attitude towards 24 and Lost is that people don't want serialized, complex storytelling anymore. So maybe we'll go back to the "adventure of the week with reset button" format for a while. Looks like The Cape is probably going to go the same route - people will love it for the first while then when the show settles into having to fill 22-episode seasons with character pieces even Summer Glau's appeal won't be enough. I hope I'm wrong but man I've become jaded. With the oddball exception of Doctor Who (whose bubble is probably going to burst sooner rather than later once it delivers its inevitable equivalent to "A Night in Sickbay") I've gotten used to shows I love being called shit by everybody else.

I do think there is a bit of a backlash towards serialization on TV right now among genre fandom. But it isn't because we hate or dislike serialization. I love it and prefer it far more than episodic television. But so much of serialization on TV is not planned out, not well written, and very often offers questions but no answers.

I think the end of BSG started the trend(although its dawn perhaps can be seen as far back as the end of the X-Files), with an end that not satisfying to many fans. If Lost's ending is not satisfying the trend will probably increase quite a bit.

Reading interviews from Ron Moore, and the Lost duo that basically come down to, "Forget the mythology and plot of the show, all that matters in the end is the characters." does not inspire confidence or respect.

Get JMS back on TV to show this generation of TV writers what well planned serialization looks like, because it appears that they have no clue.
