This got some discussion over on All Scale Trek. Pricey, very pricey. And dragged out over 2.5 years? I would want a refund clause if they choke and quit part way through.

This model comes in 120 parts, the first two for $4.95 and then the remaining 118 parts for $12.90 each plus $2.45 shipping. That's more than $1,800 for a model that won't he completed for 30 months ... sounds like a crappy deal and that's for the finished model, it will be even worse if they cancel the series after the first $1000, then it's just expensive trash.

Make a prebuilt one 2' long (the aforementiond model qualifies), with the ATG design, with 80% of windows lit (like in the show) as well as the typical red, orange, teal, and blue adornments for the bussards, impulse, deflector, and warp nacelle bits and I'd be there on day 001 if it cost reasonably less than $1800...

Oh no the price is not the main issue, it's the subscription. As mentioned, what if they fall down half way through?

I build models, I get resin from garage kitters and have done casting myself. Cheap it is not.

One of my modeling friends is doing the BttF Delorian subscription and that time factor is his main frustration with it.

Aye, that's true. Still, estimated customer base / cost of manufacture + licensing + profit for work performed >= $1800 per customer when all is said and done?! How many (estimated customers) are minimum in needed quantity to keep the project viable from start to finish?

...I should also check up on the Doctor Who chess set from the 1980s/90s. That's the only parallel I could think of in terms of big epic sci-fi subscriptions. Granted, both the chess set and this model are both pretty cool, if they did scupper it halfway through - that clearly wouldn't be good. Like a 10,000 piece puzzle with 47 pieces missing and I don't mean those itty bitty inconsequential edge pieces that are the same hue one can make a mock-up for...
