Here it is: OFFICIAL official word on Star Trek XII?

Summer of 2012. I doubt it very much they can get a good script ready in time and get all the filming and editing done for it to be ready for summer of 2011.

Did anyone else notice they referred to the current movie as Star Trek 1 and the next one as Star Trek 2?

Also, being one that was not hung up on the original cartoon, I think that GI Joe looks like it'll be fun.

I'd compare Trek to the Spider-Man movies - we're probably looking at Trek XII in 2011 and XIII in 2013. Assuming we're still here after 2012 ;)

I like it how he says "'Star Trek' is so important". :bolian:

Well what else does Paramount have that's generated billions for them in terms of an ongoing franchise?

I dunno, but it didn't seem very important when they cancelled a certain series 4 years ago.

Well, the original article did refer specifically to "Paramount's focus on franchise films" (emphasis added), not TV series. So even if future Trek films match the box office success of this one, I wouldn't hold my breath for a new Trek TV series.

Considering this film was bumped to May of '09 after originally being scheduled for December of '08, I don't think it's too unreasonable to think that they might be aiming for a release date sometime in 2011 (probably the summer, but you never know... I suppose it'll also depend on the potential competition).

And I agree, G.I. Joe looks like crap -- I'm glad I'm not a fan of the cartoon.

It really is amazing to see, especially after standing by and watching Viacom and that idiot Les Moonves treat Star Trek like used toilet paper around the cancellation of Enterprise.

LOTR comprised three huge Christmas releases for 2001 -2002 - 2003. Several of the Harry Potters were Thanksgiving/Christmas releases.

Studios like to gear their sci-fi and action tentpoles for late spring/summer release.

Hmmm. LOTR was the exception to the rule, I think. It was great.
Does anyone remember when they sat down in the theatre for a Harry Potter film? This year's release will come just short of hitting 2010. And those were supposed to be once a year!

Awesome news!

I personally want a summer 2011 release, because I don't want to wait longer than two years! :D

Also, I'd prefer if JJ was the director. I mean, yeah we could probably use less lens flare, but other than that I think he did a pretty good job.

I don't want future trek movies being spaced too far apart because soon the actors will all start aging badly.

Especially John Cho. Did you know he's already 36?

yeah, but he's Korean. he'll age gracefully ;)

And then, according to Karl Pilkington, who says Asians look 30 for fifty years and then suddenly age overnight, one day you'll see him and he'll suddenly look 80.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:

KP is a GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd argue the fourth season was much better, showing signs of improvement and getting more on track of what the series should've been from Day One. Alas, it was too little too late after four years of Bermaga BS.
