http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/200...k': An exclusive first look at the Enterprise

Well..I'm thinking the Canonites can shut up and sit down now...heh :bolian:

I have no problems with a redesign. After all, this isn't the first time that the Big E has been redesigned. The only thing I expect is for the new one to look as good as the old versions. It doesn't even come close. It's quite ugly. The different parts of the ship don't look like they go together. I would imagine very few people, even if they like the new design, would say that this ship looks better than the movie era Enterprise.

Re: There's also something else: E is supposed to be HUGE

Rumor has it that the Big is supposed to be at least 2K feet long. That's what makes the narrow Stardrive section acceptable.

Apparently, in JJ's remake, the notion of a 940 foot long ship was simply too small for a 21st Century Movie. We're all thinking 940 feet. I'm hearing that this thing is a monster. If so, than the center stardrive section is fine.
Based on the size of the windows and airlocks, it looks to be about the same size as the original.

It lacks the proportions of the NCC-1701 that always made me think of it as graceful and Pegasus-like. But then that was completely lost after the TOS era, until the E, so I've gotten used to it.

But, the ship design is about 50th on the list of things that I care about when it comes to this movie.

Yeah, that's my thought too.

Looks like the Movie Enterprise made love to a soverign class vessel and this is their illegitimate child.

Also are we sure this is the 1701 and not some other ship in the film....

As a designer, I think this will do fine. It's a lot better than the Enterprise-E. I'd like to see a comparison pic with the NX-01 to see if there is an obvious evolution anywhere. I'd also like to hear an opinion from uber-designers Mr. Probert and Mr. Sternbach, if they are lurking about. I know that both are too gentlemanly to be outright critical, but a designers impression would be much appreciated from both.

Yeah but they had a huge budget so they could clearly afford bigger windows and airlocks ;)

That's definitely the shuttle from the mining planet scene.

Can we see any dirt on the outer hull?

We were promised dirt. I can't see any dirt in this shot.

Personally I am not all that in love with it. The secondary hull seem way to small. The Nacelles I like but they are too big (I know this come from the man who design the Titan with huge nacelles) and too close to the saucer section for my liking.
Who knows maybe the secondary hull get blown away and they attach a new secondary hull
that is closer to the TOS version. If this was a design for another class of Starship I would be more accepting of it.

But lets see her in action.

Well I don't think anyone was expecting something better then the TMP enterprise...she was perfection.

All I can say is this, she is growing on me. And I have done a few quick doodles of a side view based on this photo, and the proportions, from I can judge, aren't bad.

I don't like it. I don't hate it, and I could possibly grow to like it. But I don't like it now.

I don't like the nacelles. At all. They're terrible.

The saucer is good, although it's hard to fuck up a saucer. The engineering hull is alright.

You know, the deflector dish is growing on me. Could be the best bit. A nice mix of TOS and refit Enterprise.

The registry number underneath the secondry hull is different, but I like it.

Sorry, I was being inconsistent in my post. I should have said that I don't think anyone would say she looks AS GOOD as the movie era Enterprise. I don't mind different, but I do mind worse.

The nacelles tips are awesome, they really do make the E look like a powerful hot rod, but still majestic. Viewing the teaser trailer, with the caps off was neat, but it looks better with the chrome cover. I have a feeling that like most other starships in Trek, different views of the ship will be more appreciated than others, but right now, this is an awesome design!

Someone posted this over on 4chans /m/ board and it garnered some good reactions. Personally, I HATE it, that's not the Enterprise I wanted to see in the new movie. It looks good alright, in Picards academy days, but not in Kirks. The design is very much a Connie class precursor to the Galaxy class. The continuity destroyers are at it again, first they gave us the NX class and now this....

It has 1701 underneath the deflector dish on the secondary hull.

THIS IS THE ENTERPRISE....
