Herbie J's Review of J.J.'s New "Star Trek"

And here's the deal:

As I said in my original review of JJ's new movie, I want it to make a BILLION dollars. And I am for anything that somehow introduces today's new Trek fans to the original series and all of the wonder and imagination that Gene Roddenberry introduced to the world. On THAT level, JJ Abram's Star Trek is a success - and I give it ten thumps up! Have a happy Mother's Day! :)

Herbie J, I respect your views and take on the new movie, but for fuck's sake, will you please use the EDIT button and not add posts. This is not a blaargh, oops, a blog.

THAT is an answer. Thank you.

While I still consider my first answer to be an answer as well, you're welcome.

Now then - as far as the previous films being "war movies". That is correct. And I was not crazy about them, either. And for the record, netiher was Roddenberry. The Wrath of Kahn, however, was "saved"...because of the "wonder" aspects of the "Genesis" concept. Quite beautiful and mystical...and enchanting. But as a whole, the films, as well as all the shows, have failed, because they became to soley concentrated on the characters - and not the ENTERPRISE. That was Roddenberry's big complaint about the movies, in particular. And that is all FOUNDED and NOT speculation, :)

Well, yes and no. Gene tended to have episodes from the original series that had war in them, to show the futility of war. As for the Enterprise, she is a character. She's a part of the cast, in a way, and I think J.J. respected that. Everyone got a makeover and youthful vigor, including her.

J.

I guess the same thing happened to this movie as what happened with the BEWITCHED movie? It doesnt live up to the original. You were a consultant on Bewitched Herbie. What the heck happened.;):p:p

Please. Don't get me started about THAT. I was indeed hired as a consultant - and Nora Ephron went on to ignore every single note I wrote (pages and pages) and suggested. And the movie went on to bomb. And I rest my case. :)

Yeah. I figured someting like that. I know you are a devoted Bewitched fan. One of my favorites as well. I was happy when the film bombed.
