Every morning right now I take my bike to get to work. And every morning and again in the afternoon I pass a bench. On that bench lives a guy since a few weeks. He put an old matress on there, has a dirty, thin blanket and an old big umbrella.
In the afternoon he often picked berries or apples...though by now the berries are gone.
The nights are already really cold and I always wonder when I pass by the bench in the morning, if he is still alife.
Now I wonder... I mean there are places he could go to to get a bed for the night or a hot meal for lunch.
But it seems he does not go there... doesn´t he want to? Pride? No knowledge of the places? No room left in the places?
If I´d bring him...don´t know another blanket or some food...would he be angry, because he does not want charity...or would he happy to get some help?
If I´d give him money, would he buy alcohol for it or food? I don´t know if he is alcoholic, though I know many of the people on the streets I have seen are...but surly not everyone. However if he is I would not give him money...if he is not I would.
Also I am not sure if he speaks my language or how "sane" he is. I heard him speaking to himself something... maybe it was a foreigne language maybe it was no true language at all?
I don´t know...would you do something. I find it so... I don´t know..I mean it is nearly October...it is already quite cold...in the nights its minus degree...and it will not get warmer when winter approaches. I don´t know the guy, I don´t know why he is where he is and what kind of a person he is, if he did something bad or just was not lucky, if he want help or not... but what when he dies out there, because of cold and starvation or so?
I mean this is a social staate...people get money and an apartement and such from the staate when they get unemployed... though there are wholes people can fall through I suppose... but there is charity as well... and when he is not using that, does that mean he does not want any help?
I don´t want to pass by there and just ignore it... but I don´t want to take away the rest of self-worth he might be having by giving unwanted help.
However spending the german winter there on this bench at the lake is not really a good idea, if one want to see the next spring, don´t you think?
Or maybe he is going somewhere when the winter is there and is still comfortable with the temperatures at the moment? Though I can´t imagine someone find the nights still warm enough to sleep outside.
