The Ed Sullivan show was a variety show that was sort of a precursor to the current late night tv line-up. Acts like the Beatles and Elvis Presley came to national US attention on the show.
The theatre that hosted the show is now the host theatre to The Late Show with David Letterman, and is called, fittingly enough, The Ed Sullivan Theatre.
