Help with Bridge Commander

Hello I really enjoy playing Bridge Commander with the Kobayashi Maru Mod. I mostly play quick battle under missions so I can free roam through the different systems. The problem though is that it seems that sometimes when I try to warp or another ship tries to warp then the game crashes to desktop and an error says the program stopped working. It usually happens randomly and will sometimes even happen when not playing that long. Any ideas how to avoid this?

My system specs are
Win 7
Intel i5 3.2ghz
8 gigs ram
Nvidia geforce 750ti gpu

BC just randomly crashes in quick battle. This is on both the original version of the game (patched and non patched) and also with KM.

My theory is this happens most when pressing multiple keys at once, e.g. Firing photons, phasers and turning diagonally.
