News Help with an Petition for Patrick Stewart

I don't really see where Gurney is a character that needs to be played by Patrick Stewart again. We already got a different actor in the miniseries and it worked out fine, and it's not like the role is associated with him the way roles like Jean-Luc Picard, or old Charles Xavier are.

This. Hell Gurney's appearance was little more than a Cameo in the original 1984 Dune. Do we really need a cameo of a cameo here?

The 1984 movie had a a great cast, but that was thirty-five years ago. This is a new adaptation of the novel, not a sequel to the '84 film so I'm not sure why anyone would expect the new movie to feature any of the old cast.

Nostalgia.

Nostalgia.

On the flip side, however, most of this movie's target audience was not even born when the 1984 movie came out and have probably never seen it. We're not talking STAR WARS or STAR TREK here; the Lynch movie is a one-off movie that disappointed at the box office thirty-five years ago. The movie is memorable in some ways, and may even have a cult following, but let's be honest: it's not an object of nostalgia for the vast majority of the general audience, let alone most anybody under the age of fifty.

As I like to joke: If you fondly remember the original, you are not the target demo for the remake. :)
