Hello, Furries!

I've never seen the show, but I did have a couple of friends run a great "Lies 'My Little Pony' Taught Me" panel at a con. :) -Almost- made me want to check out the series.

Was brought to Pony-side by 27yr old son. I remember them from the 80s, I babysat my younger cousins who seemed to have every available plastic pony in existence. I don't recall that series offering much empowerment to anyone but it was very sweet. This version is very sweet but also subversive in a way that delights me. I, too thought JA's av was a Prince-riffed pony.

Saw it Monday evening. Matinee tickets have risen to 7 bucks here and evening showings just 2 bucks more, so I reasoned, "Why not? Being a 'school' night, hopefully the theater will not be crammed with rowdy rascals." My notion worked better than I realized. Counting myself, there were only 3 people in the seats, the others being a young adult couple, probably in their 20s. Got the perfect seat (for me), sixth row from the screen, dead center.

Yeah, I could have waited for the home media or premium channel broadcast, but I feared I've stumble across "spoilers" in the months before those releases. Besides, I rarely go to the theater. Shoot, I didn't even bother to see "The Force Awakens" at the movie house. THAT'S how much I wanted to see this film!

And, yes, I WILL purchase the "deluxe with bonus features" Blu-Ray when it becomes available! Shoot "Rotten Tomatoes" gave this film a 98% rating, a near impossible score with that site!

Oh, in case you're wondering, no, I did not "fur suit" or "cosplay" going into the theater (despite what my avatar might suggest). Actually, I wore my business attire (sans tie) I donned for the office earlier that day.

Sincerely,

Bill

You know, I've heard people comment about going into the movie in suit...having worn three fursuit heads in the past six months (and none for the 20 years I was a fur prior to that, ha), all I can do is wonder why on Earth anyone would try to watch a movie while wearing one of those things.

I tried to watch MLP, but I just couldn't get into it. I often find the appeal to adults in kids' stuff, but, while I thought it was an awesome show for kids, I personally couldn't see the adult appeal. But that's just me, obviously it exists for a lot of people!

And you can't blame me for thinking she was Prince. ;)

Oh, no, I completely understand and don't blame you at all. :D

I get that MLP doesn't appeal to everyone, for various reasons. I love it for lots of reasons, but I think I hold on because I was in a very dark place when @Awesome Possum posted that first episode for me to watch. It did a lot more than give me a few moments of entertainment. Somehow, that little show about magic, friendship, and accepting people for who they are started working at me, and a decision I had been strongly considering was put away for another day. It has not been brought out since then. So there's more than just a show there for me.

Suiting seems like a miserable (and slightly creepy -- those unblinking eyes...) thing to do. I don't get the appeal, but different strokes and all that.

Disney is now phasing in Mickey & friends costumes with blinking eyes...and I think they're actually far creepier. (Though the unblinking ones never really bugged me so yeah.)

Last night's "Face/Off" on SyFy featured a pretty nifty cat-girl make-up...that sent the makeup contestant home. No, not because it was bad, the artist simply didn't adhere to the goal of the particular challenge, genies. This artist tended to create "whimsical" concepts even something more dramatic was desired. Last night, he did that one too many times despite the judges' earlier warnings and it cost him. The irony, they admitted it was arguably his best work. He might have "survived" if he had at least dressed the model in something "Middle Eastern", but instead he fitted her in a cocktail dress. There was nothing that hinted "genie" his concept.

On the other hand, without the border of small "horns" along her jawline, his facial sculpt would have served very well for a live action Lt. M'Ress. There was something he did with the cheek muscles that worked with the kittenish muzzle he sculpted. It probably helped that the model herself has rather "apple" type cheeks.

If I can find a screen capture, I'll link it because the overall proportions to the appliance looked great!

EDIT: Found one. Hmm, I think it works a bit better in motion than as photographic still, but here it is.

It's funny. Usually I'm 100% on board with Rule 34, especially where funny animals are involved, but I'm finding the R34 of Zootopia to be rather offputting. It's weird. This has never happened to me before.

I'm kinda with you, Gep. Aside from some of the background characters, it's very offputting.

I once read a Cracked article about the top 5 strangest fanfiction pairings. I can't remember them all, but one of them was some anime character ( I think) paired with a Tetris termino. This just reminded me of that.

It took me a little while to get into it. I liked the Pinkie character IMMENSELY and then I started liking the other characters for how they related to Pinkie and then.. suddenly I liked all of them. They are written quite distinctly which seems unusual?

My favorite is Jesus and Hitler, I was going to link it but it's totally pornographic and I think I'm not supposed to link that kind of material. But you can google Jesus and Hitler fanfic.

"During lunch Hitler explained the tenets of National Socialism to the Messiah"

Lauren Faust, the creator of MLP:FIM, wanted a show that appealed to girls, while also being intelligently written and produced. She wanted to, in her own words, "show that girls programming didn't have to be crap." What she ended up doing was making a very appealing show that managed to crossover to other demographics.

For me, Twilight was the immediate standout. I connected with her right away, but as I got into the show, I started really liking all of the characters. I liked Pinkie Pie last, believe it or not, but once she grew on me, I realized she was my inner optimist. I actually wrote about it a few years back, if you're interested in reading it:

Even the shit episodes I enjoy the characters themselves. I like Pinkie, Fluttershy (very usual character for me to like) and Rarity the most. Pinke is my absolute love.
