Hell on Wheels - Season 5

Just enough time to do a weekly rewatch of the first half of the season...that's what I plan to do.

What? I thought the series had been cancelled. I had completely wiped the show from my memory because of that. That's not a good sign at all. :(

Regardless, thank you for letting us know. I love me some Bohannan.

They are ending the show, which was announced before they aired the first group of episodes...but we still have seven to go!

For any who want to catch up or reorient themselves, the first half of Season 5 is currently available for streaming on the official site, and they've announced that those episodes will be available on Netflix May 28.

Also. for any who haven't caught it, here's the trailer that they've been airing on AMC.

Finally, I'll get to see the episode in which I'm an extra. I've been in other stuff that I filmed afterwards and which has since aired. :)

When it airs, I'll post some notes about my experiences and maybe a screencap or two of the back of my head whenever it's seen. :)

Not just a reminder that the first half of Season 5 got put on Netflix today...but also, I dug up a couple of new video extras on the official site:

New ad spot
(with a peek at the Golden Spike!)

Somewhat spoilerish (if you want to go in completely fresh) inside look at the episodes to come.

Looks like Campbell's going to be back.

So, I've just been getting to Season 5 now. Is it just me or is it not quite as good as previous seasons? I think for me at least, it may have something to do with the fact that it's mostly a new cast aside from Bohannon and that Dutch guy. Feels like something is missing.

^It IS a bit jarring; it's like starting the show over again. They do get back to the old crew, eventually, but it is a bit of steep learning curve with all the new characters. Still, when things get rolling, it's pretty damn riveting.

Yeah, that was exactly my experience with the early Season 5 episodes...lots of set-up, felt like a spin-off series. Things pick up nicely in the last few episodes of the bunch, though. I just rewatched 5x06 this past weekend, and was noticing some stuff that had me thinking, "That's gonna go somewhere, it's gotta be set-up for the final episodes."

And Thor. Gundersen. Is. NORWEGIAN! Though most folks call him The Swede. (Not to mention that there's a completely different character called Dutch on the show.)

Err yeah, sorry about that. I was spacing out on it and trying to remember him and his name.

Glad to know it picks up though. It felt like an entirely new show with the new setting. Not to mention that I kind of miss some of the older characters.

And I think that one might be up next for me. Good to know, as I was feeling like it was a bit of slow start and it wasn't quite clicking with me at that point.

Heads up--Looks like AMC is doing a marathon of the first 7 episodes of Season 5 tomorrow (Saturday, June 4), starting at 8 am EST.

[Merging old posts.]

It's getting close--the episode info is up on my cable guide! (No spoilers for anyone who's kept up with the show.)

New, "Two Soldiers", S5/Ep08, (2016), (TV-14,V,L), The Swede's murderous rampage on the Hatch homestead results in a long overdue showdown with Cullen. (Western, 70 Mins.)

Those of you setting DVRs, note the extra-long running time.

Well...I knew we'd be getting the final confrontation between Bohannon and the Swede, but I wasn't expecting it to turn into a Frenemy Road Film. The end result's the same...that's one long-running thread tied up.
