Helen Noel, now there was a chassis

We need a Nelen Noel thread every six months or so, I always love T'bonz's comment about Helen having a plastic push up bra. :techman::rommie:

She must have been more of a character actress. You know, where she looks totally in the part whatever that part may be.

^I'd say so, yes. There have been times I've been watching a 60s show on DVD and halfway through, I'd suddenly realize the guest star I'd been watching was her! She's a chameleon. Great quality in an actor.

This thread suffers from a lack of pics.

How about a picture from one of her appearances in sister Desilu show, MANNIX ("You Can Get Killed Out There" S1E19):

THIS is Mariana Hill? Huh. The picture in Forbin's post looks like her with blonde hair, but this one doesn't.

I was thinking Brooke Bundy.

Totally fetching as King Tut's Moll in BATMAN

Oh, that 60's look...

(I would have added some from that european-shot western she did, but they were likely too hot to handle:) )

Wow, check it out. I never knew it was THIS good to be film editor Bruce Schoengarth!

Thanks for posting...never saw that one before!

I had no idea she was in Godfather II as Fredo's wife. I must have seen "Dagger of the Mind" and "Godfather II" at least 50 times each, and I never joined the dots...

Great thread, just like every Helen Noel thread :techman::evil:

Funny how Rand was allowed to cozy up to Kirk (see the first Romulan attack on the Enterprise in "Balance of Terror") yet Dr. Noel was considered "forbidden fruit".
IIRC, the part of Noel was originally written for Rand.

As for why the character never showed up again. it was pretty rare for any of the love interests or villains to repeat in Star Trek. Most were conceived as one off.

Plus Rand's cosying up was also forbidden fruit, even if they lapsed slightly occasionally.

I understand why guest actresses never came back in the sixties. Oddly, they were really pleased with Diana Muldaur and so instead of having a repeat appearance by Ann Mulhall, they invited her back to play a different character.

However, I'm less sure why they aren't putting much effort to re-use characters in the comic (even if with brief name-checks) that we know exist but didn't appear in that particular episode. The classic example is that
~ Spoilers~ Dr Dehner is absent from the comic version of WNMHGB even though they need her expertise. Instead of inviting Noel to consult instead or (if she's also absent - Noel was quite young and it - it may be that in 2259 she's still at Starfleet Medical) the member of staff filling her role on the ship, tehy just bumble on without any expert opinion.

Another example would be popping down to see Captain Garth. Even if Noel was not invited to visit the penal colony, she should still be consulted about Garth's mental state and likely behaviour. And again, if she's no longer on the ship, then her replacement should be consulted. I vote for more Noel!

''Dr Dehner is absent from the comic version of WNMHGB even though they need her expertise.''

Say what? Dehner is a critical character and the key to Kirk's victory, and they left her out? Who exactly is writing the reboot? Is it that J.J. fellow?

I'm not just pushing for Dehner because I sang with Sally Kellerman at Shore Leave 33's convention last year near Baltimore.

Looking forward to their Vina-less take on THE MENAGERIE.

.

But the comics aren't supposed to be straight adaptations of the old episodes. They're new versions set in the new timeline; they're supposed to be different from the originals. That's the whole point.

And I suspect that Dehner to make room for McCoy, since he was missing from the original version.

Watched "Dagger of the Mind" for the first time in years last night, had forgotten what a good story this was, and top marks to the guy who played Van Gelder.

The Science Officer, Noel, would have been a good regular cast member and the question has to be asked.

Why wasnt she seen again ?

She was hot, no doubt, but she was annoying from the get go. Constantly batting her eyes, being over the top flirty, really unprofessional to the point where Kirk has to actually nudge her to do her fricking job already. Kirk says he wants to check out the treatment room and as he leaves, she stands there, looking into space, taking the whole thing lightly until he has to snap her out of it. When Kirk wants to be sure she knows what she's doing, she seems offended: "I know my profession." Yeah, well try acting like a professional. She sucked as a character, honestly. Until she finally gets her head together in the last act, she's ridiculous

Granted, it doesn't help that, when the Tantalus elevator suddenly closes, Kirk leaps into her arms.
