heart transplant?!?! (spoilers)

Boy Terminator was not without it faults, but I went in with no expectations and didn't totally hate it for most of the movie. I kept thinking, "well, this is a technical achievement" and "yeltchin and worthington are saving this movie" but then the end. WTF?

a heart transplant between a cyborg and connor, conveniently to save connor's life ("his heart can't take it anymore") :vomit:. WTF were they smoking?

for one, let's hope that they have the same blood type, not to mention medication to prevent connor's body from rejecting the new heart.

let's hope they have some serious rehab facilities. let's hope they have access to some advanced surgical teams and facilities.

oh, wut? they don't?

oh, wut? the whole sequence treats the audience like imbeciles.

the movie could have been ok by me if it weren't for the most maudlin, sappy, stupid ending possible.

and then to top it off, connor intones, "it's what makes us human. our hearts." unreal. :vomit:

Way to go with putting the spoiler IN the title!

no one would know how a heart transplant could possibly figure in the story unless you watched it until the very end.

this is certainly far better than the "Spock and Uhura (SPOILERS)" threads in Trek XI.

But I'm sorry if my title gave something away for you.

Yeah, that was beyond ridiculous and pulled me right out of the film.

I mean, I'm a sci-fi fan so suspending my disbelief is my specialty. But seriously, Connor having a huge fucking steel beam rammed right through his chest and still be conscious, much less survive, is one thing. That's dramatic license, which is easily understood. But, "oh, bad heart? We'll just toss another on in!" is absurd.

Assuming Connor and Wright are even compatible, I highly doubt the resistance has the proper immunity drugs to supply to him for the rest of his life, not to mention he'd be very weak. No more being thrown into walls by T-800's for him, no sir! Hell, firing automatic weapons and fighting off Terminators would be out of the question. He'd mostly be restricted to sitting by his radio like a post-apocalyptic Garrison Keillor and giving his little "This is John Connor" radio addresses.

It just seemed like they had to write "something else" that wasn't the original leaked ending and that's all they could come up with.

:( Marcus gave up a part of the little remaining humanity he had left to save John. I thought it was sad & beautiful. I just hope it doesnt mean Marcus is dead. I want him back for the sequal(if there's gonna be one.)

Not to mention they apparently did the surgery in less than sterile conditions.

I had a conversation with my roommate about the subject afterwards; he comes from a military family, so he knows a fair bit about a bunch of in-the-field stuff, and he had no problem with it. It would certainly increase the risk by large margin, but there's nothing technically to stop a heart transplant out in the desert. Conner was dead anyway, so why not try?

The rejection issue bothered me a lot, but he pointed out that Skynet would have had to overcome infection and rejection issues in order to cut and splice living tissue on the Terminators anyway--we saw Marcus running around with his chest cavity and heart exposed through the whole second half of the film with no ill effects. So we can probably figure the heart was grown with magic Skynet tech which would circumvent the other transplant issues. Which is a good point, and not something I'd thought of in the theater.

Fiction.

Do you stress over the actual physics of time travel?
Do you dissect how living flesh actually adheres and stays viable atop a metallic nuclear powered cybernetic endoskeleton?
Etc Etc Etc

Fiction

Seems many have forgotten how to just have fun at the movies.

Yeah. Being 'fiction' means it doesn't have to make sense.

They should've just said "John's heart is repairing itself! Growing stronger!"

How could they get away with it?

Fiction.

Not to mention the fact that... wasn't Kate a veterinarian in the last movie?? When did she suddenly become a trained heart surgeon? lol

Yeah it's possible she wasn't the actual doctor doing the transplant, but that's not the impression I got from watching the movie.

He survived being hit square on my massive iron doors and being throw across the room by a terminator - so why not?

I think he was actually the son of Wolverine!

Why don't people understand the concept that even within fiction, stories set rules for themselves by showing what can and can't be done.

The Terminator mythos has shown us that time travel exists. It's one of the basic conceits of the tale. Right, got that.

For three movies we're told that men without plasma rifles run from Terminators. They're terrified of them. We've been shown they're almost unstoppable. John Connor has had at least two experiences with them, and both times he's been shown their indestructibility and you're only chance is to run.

But then in T4 he gets in a fist fight with one.

T4 violated the internal reality of the mythos.

As silly as that was, I was able to overlook it since they were about 10 years before the time the previous Ts came from.

that was my first thought when i saw that part. however, since the original ending was leaked, they had to change it lickety-split. and voila! that's what we got. >_< i would have preferred to see the other two endings - connor becoming a cyborg like marcus or him dying. the heart transplant thing was just a little too "wtf" for me. >_<

It would have made more sense to give Connor a robot heart. The story could have been adapted to work around that idea.

I read somehwere that she's been picking up bits and pieces of medical knowlege wherever and whenever she can.

was dallas bryce howard's character the same woman from terminator 3? i may have missed it but i don't recall anyone mentioning her name.

on a side note, i hope that when they make a tng reboot movie they get her to play dr. crusher. :D after seeing her, the first thought i had was "wow, she could play dr. crusher." lol

Yeah, she's supposed to be Kate Brewster. And she could play Dr. Crusher, because Crusher was usually not given much to do either.
