When you get right down to it, at lot of time Hank comes off as a pretty crappy father and/or family man. In his own way, he's "Cotton lite".^yeah, as an after thought, and it sounded forced, it looked like Hank gave up on day 1 of tee ball, and it was Hank's giving up that never realy motivated Bobby, I think Bobby likes playing baseball, but it's more of him attempting to get some attention from his father
I've always thought that was kind of the point - Cotton really sucked as a father, and Hank has been trying, in a roundabout way, to break free of the 'pattern' Cotton set down and become a better father, but it's still stuck to some extent to the Cotton template. Hank knows that Cotton was a bad father, but sometimes can't help but act like Cotton because Cotton raised him.
