HBO's "Westworld", starring Anthony Hopkins/produced by J.J. Abrams

HBO has been known to halt production a number of times in the past for writing reasons, from The Sopranos to The Leftovers.

I didn't feel like reading the whole thread... Is this a remake of the old movie with Yul Brynner?

The shutdown on the show is temporary, according to the network, which plans its debut later this year.
“As we head into the final phase of production on ‘Westworld,’ we’ve made the decision to take a brief hiatus in order to get ahead of the writing,” an HBO spokesperson said in a statement.

"We repeat, there have been no mechanical malfunctions, do not panic, it is only a writing issue..."

I just hope they don't go overboard with CGI - hopefully there's no reason to. The original is a great, suspenseful film.

They will 'go overboard' with whatever is useful now in terms of FX in order to get the series made, not just to suit purists who hate anything digital (whether it be photography, music formats, or effects.) The piper calles the tune, and the tools of today are what will be used.

I liked the original 1973 Westworld film because it had so much potential in it's premise. I did not like the changes in the sequel 1976 Futureworld film or the premise of the 1980 Beyond Westworld television series. I am hoping that this new Westworld television series lives up to the 1973 film and surpasses it.

I just realized, this is the second show that Johnathan Nolan and JJ Abrams have done involving AI and artificial life. Hopefully this will handle the topic as well as Person of Interest has.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Westworld remake is sticking to the "androids" bit, aren't they? They're not doing some weird shit with VR or alternate universes like the Prisoner remake (which I admit I enjoyed quite a bit)?

Idk, that's what I am hoping for. :shrug:Westworld done right, like the 1973 film, will be great today.

The IGN article specifically talks about them being robots or whatever, and they even showed what appeared to be one of them being built during the preview released last August.

I was kind of put off by the description of the new Westworld being some kind of treatise on "the nature of sin" - sounds unnecessarily complicated, IMHO - but I guess all movies have to be like that nowadays.

I am glad it looks like a reboot of the 1973 film complete with robots still:

I've been wanting to see modern HBO do sci-fi for a while now, so Westworld makes me happy.
