HBO/Showtime version of Star Trek

I think such a thing would be extremely possible to do with a "Trek" show.

And I agree about ENT's attempts at sexiness. I love that poor bastard of a show to death, but there were some pretty awful, cringe-worthy moments that went down.

Nudity? Yeah! Porn? No.

What Star Trek needs (already mentioned) is grit. Drama. Something that looks real, and has a continuity. No time resets to change a disaster into just a bad moment (à la "Year of Hell", there could have been less damage to the ship, they could have lost no major character, and spent months repairing Voyager, but I digress).

Writers have to be pros, there has to be a clear direction from which no one is allowed to move away from. They need to do it like Straczinsky (?!) did Babylon 5, knowing from the start where the story was going, and THEN start filming.

Just my 2 ¢ anyway.

It begins with the story but is sustained by the pacing, direction, approach, consistancy, etc. The guys working on TNG were like twenty something clever novice studs. A space show is very difficult to do. It has to be believable above all and that's a very tight wire to walk on blind. TNG treated it like a big McDonald's in space and abused it's conceits and conventions, especially aliens, eventually wearing them out. The character of the universe itself and space must be catered to and respected else it is cheapened and lowered to a soap operatic he said she said mind twist convoluted extorted exploitation.

Remind me again why you're here? Do you actually like Star Trek, or do you just like to show up every now and then with your incoherent bashing?

Everybody's Star Trek is gonna be different, especially those employed by an evil corperation.
Like Gene Roddenberry? :guffaw:

Star Trek was produced by an "evil corporation" and was broadcast by an "evil corporatio". It's a corporate product through and through, designed to make money for its creator, the studio and the network. Its not the TV equivalent of some indie music group that records in a garage and vowed to never sell out to the man. Its the Spice Girls, not the Clash.

Roddenberry was the only one to win that fight and he was still bruised some twenty years later after that by some of those battles, wasn't he? Sounds like he was battling a multi-headed monster from hell and he was a knight in shinning armor.

JJ may be an effective middle man buffer but that's about it and that won't last long. He's courting th devil's main squeeze there. A little like Pulp Fiction there.

What we need is an ex boxer who won't take a bribe.

Who mentioned a fight?

Abrams is the buffer between who and who? He was hired to do a job. He did the job to his employers satisfaction.

Like this one?

Except for the 'ex' part, of course.
