Steve McGarrett is summoned home to the island of Honolulu to bury his father after he is murdered by a madman. Governor Jameson wants Steve to head up a new elite police unit and she will give him full authority to get the job done. Initially he turns down the job, but when he meets the man in charge of the unit, he changes his mind.

"Book 'em Danno!" A modern-day re-imagining of an 70s "classic."

Premieres tomorrow night at 10/9pm Central on CBS.

'80s? The original aired from '68 to '80.

That said, I'm actually pretty interested in this. I really like the cast.

Fine, 70s classic. ;)

Oh, and I fudged up the poll. (Didn't offer the pollster to select multiple options.) Oops.

Anyway, this looks like an interesting series and will very much-so check it out tomorrow night. If there's enough traffic/response to the series I'll likely continue hosting the weekly threads for it.

Agree, it is a good idea to return it now.:techman:

A couple of weeks back, CBS had a "Fall Preview" show they ran for a half hour one night, and they showed some extended clips of the new Hawaii 5-0. I'm not sure I'd call this a return. The setting is the same, the character names are the same, but based on what I've seen it's going to be nothing like the original. I'm not saying it's going to be a bad show, but it's definitely a pretty big deviation in the characters, much like the movie version of the Dukes of Hazzard was so different from the TV version.

I'm a big fan of the original and watching those clips was kind of disconcerting. But I am going to watch the new show and try to have an open mind about it, I'm hoping it's an entertaining show.

Dammit! When I realized it was on mondays, I hoped it would be at 9, giving me a perfect through-line from "House" to "Castle" (with a Stewart/Colbert chaser) Oh, well, that's why God gave us Hulu.

I loved the original series. And the original theme music still rocks. But I admit to being cynical about this reimagining.

Here was the original title sequence for this show:

But then they changed it to make the music more like the original:

I like the music on the second one better but the visuals on the first one are better.

I could have sworn when I read about this show before that it was a continuation, not a remake. The main character was supposed to be Steve McGarrett's son Chris.

Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim are in this show? At least they give nerds something to work with :D

That was the original plan, but then that project fell through and it was later picked up by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who decided to rewrite it as a reboot with O'Loughlin playing Steve McGarrett. But apparently the new McGarrett's (deceased) father shares some characteristics with the original McGarrett character, and IIRC O'Loughlin's McGarrett will be seen working on/restoring the same car Jack Lord's McGarrett drove in the original series. Which makes me wonder why they didn't just stick with the sequel idea in the first place. I guess they wanted to keep Danno and Chin Ho Kelly and Kono, too.

Thanks. At least now I know I'm not completely crazy.

FYI, here's the intro to a failed Hawaii Five-0 pilot:

I'm interested in the show and the second version of the theme is much better!

I like the blend of CGI and stunts such as when that truck smashes into the side of that shanty building and nails a guy.

I just hope the show doesn't become CSI in hawaii

I'm going to give this a try, but I'd be lying if I said I was watching for any other reason than Daniel Dae Kim. I need to see the Losties on things other than the DVDs...

*Goes to set a reminder for the Law and Order: SVU premiere guest starring Henry Ian Cusick*
