Hawaii 5-0: The Second Season Begins!

Loved the look on Steve's face when Danny found him in the back of the truck.

So the plot was a little far fetched...it was fun. So what do we think this "Sheldon" or what ever Wo Fat called it is? If Wo Fat doesn't know, and Steve doesn't know, I have to wonder if it was some sort of trap that Jack was trying to put together to catch Wo Fat.

Why thanky. I knew it was 'shell' something, but just couldn't remember. But 'shell' is the part that got me to thinking. Shellburne-shell game-scam to lure out Wo Fat? Who knows, just putting it out there.

The main action of the story was incredibly farfetched, but this episode ended up being good by virtue of the sum of its parts: Jenna's surprising exit (which was really well-played, by the way), some good Steve/Danny moments, and Kono got to do something! Jimmy Buffet was really fun in the bar scene, and I especially loved Danno's nod to "Margaritaville."

There was a special treat for fans of the original Five-O last night: the manager of the apartment complex where Jenna was living on Maui was played by Doug Mossman, who appeared on the original series 27 times, including 13 Season 7 episodes as fill-in detective Frank Kamana (during the period after they fired Al Harrington, but before Herman Wedemeyer's Duke Lukela got promoted from HPD up to Five-O). It's nice that they're able to work these guys in from time to time, especially considering how few of them are left.

That was a fun, turn your brain off kind of episode. I say that in the nicest way possible as it did have my undivided attention. Alex O'Laughlin does a pretty good Jack Bauer getting tortured and then later stalking his torturers with no ill effects.

I saw somewhere the torture and recovery was a nod to Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon

Totally implausible but soooooooooo much fun. I felt bad for Jenna but she did betray her friends so it's hard to feel too badly for her. Still it adds some more to McGarrett's desire to bring Wo Fatty down.

Don't get married...just find a woman you hate and give her a house.

Interesting idea! I have *no* clue what it could be, but I have a guess: maybe some sort of classified military weapon? I could see Wo Fat wanting to get his hands on something like that.

That was cute. Danno does like his frou frou drinks, too, so it kind of fits that hard liquor might be a bit much for him, especially while on the job.

It was totally implausible! But completely fun. I agree about Jenna... at the end of the day, I think Steve is going to chalk it up to Wo Fat being manipulative. I imagine he will, if he hasn't already, forgive Jenna. She certainly paid a steep price for her betrayal.

Wasn't the original Chin Ho a grandpa? With Danno's situation in flux and since they made Chin Ho a cousin instead uncle to Kono I can see using him as the familyman of the team

If you're referring to Dennis Chun, who plays Duke Lukela, then yes, he's the one. He did a few guest appearances on the original. More significantly, though, is he's the son of Kam Fong, who played the original Chin Ho Kelly.

I don't remember if they ever got to the point of Chin Ho being a grandfather on the original series, but he did have about half a dozen kids. One of them was college age (and in love with the Bad Guy of the Week). He was definitely the only one with an actual family life; the others were all married to The Job, with the occasional girlfriend brought in to die for dramatic emphasis. (This usually ended badly; I'm not sure which was worse: watching James MacArthur attempt to cry on-screen, or watching Jack Lord attempt to cry on-screen. )

I have a bad feeling about Chin Ho's prospects for happiness, too. Relationships rarely go/end well on procedurals. I feel like the main characters are more often than not doomed to perpetual singlehood, with a little romance peppered in here and there.

I hope they don't back off the emphasis on Danny as the family man--I love his scenes and relationship with Grace.

Pretty good episode tonight though it was pretty obvious that all the kids would be found and be uninjured. I didn't see the low level drug dude being the main Cartel dude at all so that was a plus in my book.

And what's up with Joe? The end makes him seem shady but I don't think so. I think he's protecting someone and Steve. Who is Shellburne? My guess is that it's actually Steve's mother. She never really died. it was someone else and she's been hiding all these years.

I didn't see that coming either, though I did think they spent a lot of time with him when Kono was getting the route from him. That guy is a good actor! Loved the turn when he stopped pretending to be a low level thug. The twist with them wanting the drugs to destroy evidence was really clever, too.

I think he's probably protecting Steve, too. Interesting theory about Shellburne being Steve's mom! It would be cool if that was the case, and that she wasn't just collateral damage in the fight between Steve and Wo Fat.

Overall I liked this episode a lot--I was on the edge of my seat! Yeah, I knew they'd find the kids in time, too, but I thought it was convincing, and the female hostage taker was pretty evil. Next week's looks good, too.

On the phone he said "McGarrett is getting too close" despite the fact that all the information McGarrett had received about Shellburne in the episode had come from Joe himself. He could have just told Steve nothing and Steve wouldn't have been any closer to finding out anything.

That leads me to believe that he's either misleading Steve about the nature of Shellburne completely (doubtful), or he's acting in sort of a double agent capacity but is ultimately on Steve's side first and foremost. He gives Steve real information in a piecemeal fashion for Steve to eventually uncover without implicating Joe.

Ed Asner To Reprise Role From Original ‘Hawaii Five-0′ In The Series’ CBS Reboot

Ed Asner is upgrading his status on Hawaii Five-0 from a guest star to recurring. In a very unusual series guest arc spanning 36 years, the multiple Emmy winner will guest star on CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 reboot in the spring, reprising the role of August March, which he played in an episode of the original series in 1975.

In a first for the new Hawaii Five-0, footage from the original series will be featured in Asner’s episode. It will be from the actor’s first Hawaii Five-0 appearance in an 1975 episode titled Wooden Model Of A Rat, in which August March (Asner) was an up-and-coming world class smuggler. Now a reformed man after serving 30 years in prison for murder, March lives on O’ahu and is approached by the Five-0 to assist on a smuggling case.

I guess the scenes from the original will be used as flashbacks. All mention of the character's names that are used in the reboot will not be used in the flashbacks of course. Though mcGarrett could be because it could be Steve's father.

just catching up on the latest episode - suprised that Joe has supposedly spent half his life in the military and he's only a Lt. Cdr - I guess he could have have started out as an enlisted man and had the chance to go to OCS.
