Pretty much the same way the refit-1701 was suppose to be the TOS 1701. There's not much left.

Got a copy of the live action Yamato movie. It's decent. Some things I REALLY liked, especially the SFX and the soundtrack. And they changed a few things things with the original story too:

Yeppers. The wreck was discovered when the oceans of the world dried up and rebuilt into (space battleship) Yamato. Granted there's a shite ton of alien technology behind the rebuild and you could argue that the (space battleship) Yamato is and isn't the original Yamato since it's a total rebuild.

Kind of like the TMP onward Enterprise.
