Having a baby on Voyager?

Of course they were excited! They were having a child! Goodness! The only reason I can see why you asked this is to start an argument.

I find it weird on a ship lost for seven years, thousands of light-years away from home, with no real chance of ever making it back, that only two babies were ever born on board. They should have implemented a breeding programme after their first year, readying the ship to be crewed 20/30 years down the road.

I think it's a valid question. I know it pains me sometimes to see characters pregnant under potentially awful circumstances. It adds a whole new level of stress to being under constant danger. The thing with Voyager is it's an upbeat show, the constant danger isn't stressed. But we do know it's there.

They discussed it as a possibility they might have to look at. This is the futurez where people are living a lot longer and able to breed a lot later. Their timeframe for "let's get cracking then.." is longer than ours would be.

Icheb and Naomi could have bred half-Borg babies long after every else was gone. Except Tuvok. He would still be there at like 200 years old looking exactly the same.

I think they should have had Tuvok and Vorik do more of the breeding than some of the others. Vulcans are better than humans at most stuff, it would make sense to try and get more Vulcans. Sign up for some mini-Vulcans today, get home faster!

This. Vorik needs a woman anyway, for multiple reasons.

Multiple?

Let's see..

1. To have regular non pon farr sex with, if he could get over his anxieties.
2. For pon farr so he doesn't die.
3. TO SOCIALIZE HIM. He's a dork, he needs training.
4. To bear him children, for the good of the ship and to give him status over Harry Kim who won't be breeding during this scenario.
5. To cajole him into getting rid of that Vulcan dork hair style.

After 20 years he will be on the holodeck in a Hawaiian shirt if he has the right woman.

So really it's only one reason, TO IMPROVE HIM.

He can enjoy Quarks latest holonovel, Beach Blanket Bondage.

I honestly don't get the Vorik hate.

Honestly I think it's just projected hate being his actor is Jeri Ryan's son. Nepotism issues aside, he wasn't going to win an Emmy, but he wasn't any worse than most of the extras and even some of the main cast(looking at you Chakotay and Kim).

Vorik creeped me out big time with all that B'Elanna stuff.

What you mean the episode where Tuvok said Torres had the right to be her own defender, and if she lost Vorik would have his way with her? What's creepy about that? ;)

She made the decision to take him on herself. She could have just let Paris deal with it.

Putting it more bluntly the whole concept of that scene was Torres was fighting to stop Vorik from raping her.

None of it was fine, the whole episode was disgusting.

But what do you expect with pon farr as a storyline they can whip out whenever they want? I'm surprised we didn't get worse episodes.

But the truly most awful thing of all is that I can't blame Wang or Kim at all.

I can only assume that if Wang hadn't been suspended, that Vorrik would have approached him to be his Lover, and exactly the same story would have tracked from there culminating in Tom and Harry admitting their love for each other through ridiculous and unbelievable denials about how they do not want to rub their half naked bodies up against each other in a wrestling match... Until they wrestle.
