Of course they were excited! They were having a child! Goodness! The only reason I can see why you asked this is to start an argument.
I find it weird on a ship lost for seven years, thousands of light-years away from home, with no real chance of ever making it back, that only two babies were ever born on board. They should have implemented a breeding programme after their first year, readying the ship to be crewed 20/30 years down the road.
I think they should have had Tuvok and Vorik do more of the breeding than some of the others. Vulcans are better than humans at most stuff, it would make sense to try and get more Vulcans. Sign up for some mini-Vulcans today, get home faster!
He can enjoy Quarks latest holonovel, Beach Blanket Bondage.Multiple?
Let's see..
1. To have regular non pon farr sex with, if he could get over his anxieties.
2. For pon farr so he doesn't die.
3. TO SOCIALIZE HIM. He's a dork, he needs training.
4. To bear him children, for the good of the ship and to give him status over Harry Kim who won't be breeding during this scenario.
5. To cajole him into getting rid of that Vulcan dork hair style.
After 20 years he will be on the holodeck in a Hawaiian shirt if he has the right woman.
So really it's only one reason, TO IMPROVE HIM.
I wonder what Nimoy is reaching for?I like how those men are in handcuffs Gov Kodos.
I honestly don't get the Vorik hate.
Jeri Taylor, Jeri Ryan isn't that old.I honestly don't get the Vorik hate.
Honestly I think it's just projected hate being his actor is Jeri Ryan's son. Nepotism issues aside, he wasn't going to win an Emmy, but he wasn't any worse than most of the extras and even some of the main cast(looking at you Chakotay and Kim).
Vorik creeped me out big time with all that B'Elanna stuff.

What you mean the episode where Tuvok said Torres had the right to be her own defender, and if she lost Vorik would have his way with her? What's creepy about that?![]()

She made the decision to take him on herself. She could have just let Paris deal with it.
