I was thinking about ordering some books, but before I do I want to know if anyone on the bored has? & how the experiance was? was the shiping fast? did they ever screw up a order? how dependible are they?

They haven't biffed an order for me in quite sometime, if ever, and I typically order a book a week or so.

They're pretty dependable from my experience. Everything arrives pretty quickly, usually on the low end of whatever shipping estimate they give you.

Lots of times. Never had any trouble that they didn't correct quickly upon notification.

Once a package just failed to arrive---the tracking information said it was delivered and signed for, but I never got it. I called up Amazon and got a service rep who said they'd look into it. For some reason---I forget why now---I called a second time, and this time I got a different service rep who simply said they'd ship the order again at no charge.

Several times too (via amazon.co.uk) with absolutely no problems so far - everything comes in on time.

I've had more problems ordering from Marks and Spencer online. :(

Lots of times. never had a problem once. Remember to distinguish between ordering from Amazon itself and sellers on Amazon. If you order from sellers you will be dealing with them directly not Amazon, though I have never really had a problem with any sellers either.

I've ordered books from Amazon on many occasions, have had no issues. That it's so often cheaper to import books from the United States than buy them locally is vaguely disconcerting. I only wish they'd stop spamming me.

I shop on Amazon.co.uk all the time and the delivery is usually very fast and my item arrives in perfect condition. I always use the one click shop feature, 1 click is all it takes to buy something. :techman:
What book you looking for? I might have it. ;)

I've never had any problems from amazon.com, either. They're really reliable and cheap. I always get my textbooks for less than half what the campus bookstore charges.

What i've tend to notice though is that many of the people selling the items have their own shop websites, if you go to their shop website their items are cheaper and sometimes deliver free of charge. I've saved sometimes as much as £5 by going to their site instead of buying through Amazon.
Edit: But only do that if you feel you can trust the other site of course.

I order from both amazon.com and amazon.co.uk all the time. I order from amazon themselves and also from the marketplace. I've never had a problem with amazon, and on the two occasions I had problems with sellers over the marketplace amazon promptly refunded me no-questions-asked.

I've bought from Amazon more times than I can count. I've never had an order wrong and the one time some CDs arrived with damaged cases, they replaced the order immediately.

That's the great thing about amazon, though -- if some one in the marketplace screws you, amazon takes care of it. Once I ordered a copy of Masterpiece Theatre over the marketplace, and the company sent me The Biggest Loser season 3 instead. They refused to ship my dvd or refund me until I'd shipped back The Biggest Loser. The dvd I'd ordered was a gift and I needed it immediately. I sent one email to amazon about the issue and they (amazon) immediately refunded my $30.

Okay is that common? the ''spaming'' ? if I bought some left / right wing books ( I like to keep up on the politics of both sides) would I get automaticaly start geting left/right e-mails?. Or if I bought some manga or comic books would I get a bunch of spam from the publishers?:vulcan: Sorry I'm asking so many questions, but I'm new to buying off of amazon.

Not that kind of spam. They do send you annoying updates on sales and things -- This week 20% off on... -- but it's pretty harmless and you won't get spam from other companies.

At a glance, over the last six months Amazon has averaged one e-mail to my account every four days. That's excluding those actually related to orders.
