Initially I didn't like it, until I realized that every hero ship has something that bugs me (in this case, the position of the neck and how close the nacelles are to each other).

Still, she's a beauty in her own right.

The endless threads of "I like it, I don't like, you are stupid for liking it, you are a moron for not liking it, the designer is a hack, the designer is god" are boring.

I agree; the more I look at her, the more I accept the very things you listed as initial turn-offs.
Anyway, just checkin' the levels, like any good dipstick will...

I never really hated it, but I like it a lot more now than I did originally. So long as its not some preposterous behemoth of over 700 meters in length, that is. Fortunately there's a good case to be made for a size closer to that of the original.

I still don't much care for the interior sets such as the bridge and especially engineering, but I can get past that.

Yeah, I have my issues with MANY aspects, but hey, back in the day (1979 to you kids), I HATED TMP's bridge! I was like, "Where's the COLOUR?!?!?!?"
Now, boy, we GOT colour, eh?

The design doesn't bug me anymore, no, but I'm not its biggest fan. I still feel that the upgrade makes the Enterprise seem needlessly bulky and cumbersome. But not in any significant way - they tinkered with the wheel, but they didn't break it.

Not yet. It was fine in the movie admittedly. They worked miracles with the camera angles to bring out its good side. Rising from the rings of Saturn worked very well, I seem to recall.

Looking the model on my own terms, I see more far more ugly than beauty. You have be very forgiving of its appearance. In other words, this is your U.S.S. Enterprise if you've never lived with the others for any real length of time. You can see beauty, where I just see parts of the original or film model that are missing, in the wrong place or at the wrong angle.

I liked it from the beginning.

So far, I have noticed 3 categories:
-Many who did not like it at first have grown to like it.
-Others have come to accept it as the latest incarnation.
-Still others do not like it for various reasons.
All 3 opinions have their merits.

Of course, some hate anything to do with the new movie and will show up to complain and call names. It is still a good thread topic.

I have lived with all the other ships from the beginning and love the new design! I think they got it right. Finally, we have an Enterprise which looks like it has some power... a Sport Edition, if you will.
