Have the DC animated films been un-cancelled?

I seem to have fallen out of the loop when it comes to the DC animated films. About 6-8 months ago it was discussed here and elsewhere that DC had cancelled this series. I think I even read that Under the Red Hood was going to be the last release, and someone was bemoaning the cancellation of All-Star Superman.

Yet this week out of nowhere (well, for me - I did say I fell out of the loop) came Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (with Summer Glau as Supergirl - insert fist pump here!), and the disc includes a behind the scenes preview of, indeed, All-Star Superman (and with Christina Hendricks as Lois yet - insert another fist pump).

The new disc even included another one of those great Showcase shorts that people were saddened to see ending.

I know these animateds are made far in advance, so it's possible it's a case of Warner Premiere "burning off" its backlog. But still, I was convinced All-Star Superman was history. Has DC/WB reversed its decision? Or is ASS (er, maybe I won't use that acronym - All-Star Superman) going to be the swan song? I hope not, because given DC's apparent inability to get movies made (at least not to the same frequency as Marvel) I've found the animated films to be a great substitute (even if I felt some aspects of Apocalypse were a bit rushed).

I just posted the trailer for "All-Star Superman" in a thread last week and the voice cast was formally announced a couple weeks ago. I know nothing of cancellation of the films for next year or beyond.

There was no cancellation. That was a misunderstanding of the actual announcement, which was that the DC Universe DVD movies would be scrapping some of the projects that had been proposed, such as Teen Titans: The Judas Contract. Basically the plan was to focus their efforts on the things that had proven most profitable, meaning Superman and Batman titles. Although I gather there's a Green Lantern anthology project in the pipeline, so I'm not sure how that fits in.

Yes "Green Lantern: Emerald Knights" I think it's called is scheduled for next summer I believe and as Christopher indicated is an anthology.

^ No doubt the logic behind the GL project is that it will be rendered profitable by the accompanying hype for the live-action Ryan Reynolds/ Martin Campbell movie.

Alex, Christina Hendricks and Summer Glau make many a fist pump!

Actually I think they're hoping the animated series debuting next year will start the hype for the "Green Lantern" film more than the anthology will.

The line was never cancelled. As others have said, an interview was misunderstood. Although, to be honest, even that interview never said the line was cancelled. All that was said was a couple proposed ideas are not being made. In fact, DC has now announced their entire line for next year.

It seems to be a long term goal at DC to building GL into their third major franchise following Geoff Johns success at the comic.

Yes this does seem to be on their agenda and they've been succeeding to a degree I would say. I started reading "Green Lantern" during the Pallarax storyline and am a Kyle Rayner fan. Then I stopped reading when Ron Marz left the book. I became interested in it again when "Rebirth" happened along with John Stewart being featured on "Justice League" now I'm a huge GL fan. Such a diverse mythology and one could say the heart of the DCU. I would say that GL is among my top five favorite superheroes right now and I wouldn't have said that before Geoff Johns started writing the character.

I'm definitely enjoying GL and GLC as much if not more than the Super and Bat titles. And if I recall correctly looking at the sales figures, GL is outselling Super and Bat for quite some time now.
