Ryuusoulger episode 28

https://www.mp4upload.com/fc0l38dgnz76

An odd concept episode with venturing into the body of someone. That someone being Asuna. I think if it wasn't executed properly then it might come off corny but the acting and Asuna trusting Koh elevated it. Glad Asuna was able to wear the Doshin armor

It was weird not to have a resolution to the Canalo/Bamba/Towa vs Gachireus fight. Also something is definitely up with Nada.

Next week Akiko's actress from "Kamen Rider Double" makes a guest appearance! She's getting married to Canalo. Things must not have worked out with her and Kamen Rider Accel :D

They even promoted her appearance with her trusty slipper LOL. I wonder if they'll slip that in a reference to her past role.

A nice twist on a monster plot. Given the way Minusaur growth works, there was an additional mortal threat to Asuna aside from the heart thing. And yeah, the drama with Koh and Asuna was excellent. Ichika Osaki really is a terrific actress.

I guess we have a better idea how DosshinSoul works. What Melto was able to do last week by finely targeting what he destroyed is built into the Soul's power set, rather than just being weirdly contrived. It's still strange, though, to base the armor on boxing gloves, a brute-force thing if ever there was one, and give it such surgically precise focus.

Fine with me -- Akiko's marriage ruined her as a character. In the show, she was funny, assertive, and confident, but the reunion movies made her maudlin, needy, and insecure, the complete opposite of what made her character so much fun. Let's hope this marriage storyline serves her better.

I can't imagine Yaiba ever actually kneeling beside her subordinate Fuwa in that submissive way, like a scantily clad babe in a Frazetta painting of Conan.

By the way, in the Ryusoulger episode, I think they slipped a sexual innuendo past us. They usually explain how the Minusaurs' repeated phrases reflect the host's desires or anxieties, but they never overtly said what "Enter hole" meant... and the guy's wife and Kleon were making fun of his small size, with Kleon chanting something about "even though your body's a bit large." So we may have just had our first Minusaur powered by fear of sexual inadequacy.

Sarah Brown who is a soap opera actress and got her start on VR Troopers and Power Rangers condemns Haim Saban and Shuki Levy. She also lashes out at CBS president Les Moonves

UtXGXzk.jpg

In a recent interview she has harsh words and accusations against Shuki Levy and Haim Saban. If anyone wants to hear her accusations its on youtube.

Ranger Recap 10/03/19 (Special Guest: Sarah Brown)

It’s pretty damning of both Levy and Saban. Sarah claims that when she did not approve of Levy's advances toward her that she found herself with less job offers

In the interview she also tells of how when she was living in an apartment Shuki Levy owned/This was in the middle of their major spats when she was gonna leave him, Shuki then had a repair-man come in to "fix" her air conditioning unit.

Sarah later found out that the air conditioner was rigged to set the apartment on fire.

Whether Haim or Shuki will serve justice is tough. They're very powerful people.

Damn. It is, sadly, never surprising to learn that a male executive in Hollywood (or probably anywhere else) is guilty of a pattern of sexual harassment and assault, since such things have been implicitly accepted "perks" of executive power in our society for generations, and that culture is still only starting to change. But it is frustrating and upsetting when it happens, and this is a particularly shocking case, with the allegation of attempted murder. I mean, we've known for a long time that there was some abusive behavior behind the scenes on MMPR, with the homophobia David Yost had to contend with, but this is... wow.

What's worrying is that, if Levy and Saban treated the female lead of VR Troopers this way, how many other young, inexperienced, non-union actresses who got cast as Power Rangers etc. did they prey on? On the one hand, it would be good if enough victims came forward to confirm the charges and improve the odds of justice being done... but on the other hand, I'm afraid to think about what might've happened to actresses I really liked and respected.

Beast Morphers: "Tuba Triumph": An okay standalone about Ravi helping a bullied tuba-playing kid learn confidence. Decently written but pretty much filler. As usual, there's nothing from Go-Busters aside from a couple of minutes of fight footage near the end. And the original fight footage was underwhelming in its choreography compared to the Japanese stuff, or to the heyday of Power Rangers. (PR's stunt coordinator in many of its early seasons, Koichi Sakamoto, moved from adaptation to original and become a frequent Super Sentai/Kamen Rider director in Japan over the past decade; he's done some pretty spectacular stunt work there. It doesn't seem like Beast Morphers has anyone close to his talent doing their stunts.)

The Go-Busters footage here is taken from a 2-parter, episode 13 for the ground-level fight and episode 14 for the Megazord battle. So they're still drawing on episodes predating the introduction of the fourth and fifth Go-Busters, who debuted in a cameo at the end of #14. That's why Nate and Steel weren't involved in the climactic fights.

Kamen Rider zero-one episode 6

This might be the first okay episode for me. There were some plot conveniences that were wrapped up too quickly

How did the VA humagear get actual memories of the dead daughter?

That actress looked creepy when she said “Papa”

Hiden intelligence sends an advanced Amazon echo to replace the humagear and the fathers okay with that? I know he regrets modeling a humagear as his daughter but something felt missing.

We learned a lot about Jin and his parent and son relationship with horobi

It was interesting to see that jin was forced to be Kamen rider jin

Glad Yua got a power up. Now she’s equal to fuwa

I liked it a lot. Rather heartwarming, and it was intriguing to see Jin have his crisis of faith, as well as to learn that he's a Humagear of some sort himself.

Plus it's the first time I actually liked (or clearly understood) a "Gotta have Aruto" joke, with A.I. and ai (love). That's a good one. (It'd make a good slogan for a Humagear ad campaign!)

It had a looser connection to last week's episode than I expected, though. It's the anime based on the manga featured last week, but the manga's creator wasn't in this one.

It seems to me the mysterious guy giving Yua her orders has got to be connected with Hiden somehow, if he's able to have Progrise Keys made.

Interesting that the upgrade forms/keys can be used by more than one Rider. We've seen some systems like that before, like the Gaim Arms. I wonder if we'll see a lot of mixing and matching.

How did the VA humagear get actual memories of the dead daughter?

Perhaps through some spiritual means, in keeping with the Shintoist beliefs that often inform tokusatsu. Maybe the father's love for her imbued her with a part of his daughter's soul.

Well, the law was the law. Although it's a convenient loophole that it bans using a real person's image without permission but not their voice.

And while we're at it, why wouldn't a dead person's next of kin have the right to give permission in their stead? That doesn't make a lot of sense.

Also, when did Yua find out that Aruto is Zero-One? She called him Shachou-san (Mr. President) while he was in Rider form.

They did the slipper reference real early on. At first I thought Yui was just Wyzul in disguise

Canalo got some character development where he has to weigh the needs of the many against the needs of the one. And that's better character development than... what he previously got.

Gaisorg is
Nada. No surprise at all lol

Now we have to find out what's up with Seto.

That slipper was defective. It didn't have anything written on it.

I was disappointed by Hikaru Yamamoto's character here. She was too much like Akiko became in the W sequel movies -- insecure, worrying, demanding toward her (prospective) husband, although at least this time it was fear of him getting hurt rather than simple jealousy and mistrust. Also, what are they thinking casting Yamamoto as a serious, sad or worried character? She's an amazing comic actress. Let her be goofy and over the top!

I'm glad they didn't drag out the "secret" of Gaisorg's identity any longer. Hopefully that means we'll get some exposition next week and find out what's going on with him.

Man, they're really selling the DosshinSoul toy hard, constantly coming up with reasons to use its punching power. Although judging from that ending, it looks like they're about to introduce a new toy, borrowing a page from Gaoranger with a mecha that starts out in a cute egg/baby form. Well, at least it's a change from all the stuff they copy from Zyuranger and Abaranger.

The bit about a toy and other objects being "sad" that they were thrown away ties into what I was saying yesterday about the Shintoist belief in inanimate objects having spirits imbued by the people who made them or formed attachments to them. Hmm... I wonder if a HumaGear could be a Minusaur host.

Boom! Studios has announced a new Power Rangers graphic novel, The Psycho Path. It features Power Rangers In Space Red Ranger, Andros, and In Space and Lost Galaxy's Pink Ranger Karone, as the Pyscho Rangers return, looking for their leader, Karone's former evil identity Astronema.

I was a bit surprised to see the entire 2nd wave of Hasbro Lightning Collection figures at GameStop. I know they're selling them but usually I don't see a full wave.

Psycho Blue and Red packed with Lost Galaxy Red are out

Zero-One episode 7

https://www.mp4upload.com/54zee9w1ynfe

I really like how this series keeps adding more world building. This week we learn that the contract holder can only reset their humagear

A humagear basketball coach named "Kobe"? Hilarious

They actually did a "bear hug"? What is Yui trying to achieve? Is she so determined to analyze humagear that she is willing to put Zero-One in harms way?

The mammoth progrise key is supposed to give Zero-One mammoth armor to combat future threats. This might be how Zero-One can go up against Horobi.

This week starts the first two-part episode of the series.

Ryuusoulger episode 30

You gotta love the sentai trope of shifting tones abruptly

"Koh's been slashed in the back!"

*Everyone dance!*

Apparently it's so that kid's don't get traumatized right after the episode ends.

Always nice to see sentai alumni Nao Nagasawa make an appearance. It felt like the episode had some narrative weight behind it too.

Zero-One: Not bad. Some significant advances here. We learn that Valkyrie is up to something morally ambiguous, at once endangering Aruto and helping him. She seems to be trying to learn about Magear and how to fight them, but there's something more that seems dangerous. I hope she's not a bad guy. She did show some impressive moves this week, at least.

Also, it's out in the open that MetsuboJinrai is targeting Humagear with emergent sentience (and now we have a visual effect to indicate the moment of Singularity). The show is still a bit muddy on this point -- Aruto now knows that the Humagear are becoming sentient and he approves of it, but he still doesn't hesitate to destroy them once they're Mageared, and the show persists in depicting the replacement of a destroyed sentient Humagear with a lookalike that has to start all over again as an adequately happy ending. I wish Aruto would find a way to restore the corrupted Humagear instead of destroying them.

Ryu: Yay, Nanami! Always cool to see her (although by the time I saw her as Nanami, I already knew her as two different recurring characters I liked in Kamen Rider W and Fourze, yet didn't recognize her at first). This is two weeks in a row we've had past tokusatsu female leads as guest stars, and it's not even an anniversary season.

The "high-spec surgeon" plot was kind of unfocused, but it's good to get exposition about Nada and Gaisorg. They're maintaining continuity surprisingly well with the crossover special.

As for Koh's fate at the end, it always amuses me when the heroes endure what should be fatal blows while out of armor, but are back in the fight by the end of the next episode, with their bandages being the only sign of injury. It's the human-scale equivalent of whole cities getting blown up and then back to normal within minutes. They play at these massive, dramatic stakes, but since it's a kids' show, the consequences never stick.

I won't be reviewing Power Rangers Beast Morphers for a while. I decided I couldn't afford cable TV any longer, since it wasn't worth paying so much for the handful of shows I can't watch free online. Unfortunately, this is one of those shows, since the Nick app requires you to sign in with your cable provider, and I don't have one anymore. I'll just have to watch the rest of the season whenever Netflix gets it. Looks like today's episode was the Halloween clip show anyway, so I'm probably not missing much.

Yeah it was a clip show. Easy pass

On short notice I will be able to go to Japan in a few days. Any Super Sentai Mueseums, Cafe/Bars I should visit while being in Tokyo and Kyoto?
