Hasbro's Power Rangers era and General Tokusatsu discussion

This is like a gold mine. If we can't get every Super Sentai or Kamen Rider on dvd at least we can get Ultraman.

I've tried to get into Ultraman but with Super Sentai and Kamen Rider I feel like I would be stretching myself too thin to keep up with all 3.

I think the Ultraman series are about more or less equal to the 2000-2019 Heisei era. There's probably too much to catch up on.

Back in 2002 Fox tried one last attempt at Saturday morning line up with Foxbox. They tried to dub "Ultraman Tiga". It did not last

You have to give Fox or 4kids some credit. A dubbed Japanese toku series on a Saturday morning kids line up? That's amazing

After months of speculating we have our first look at Zero-One with the leak of it's first toy catalog. Also a look at the 4th quarter mecha for Ryusoulger.

https://news.tokunation.com/2019/07/11/kamen-rider-zero-one-fully-revealed-61562

Of note:

-We get a female rider right out of the gate. She'll get a power up too alongside Zero-One and the 2nd rider Vulcan
-Zero-One main form is looking very old school
-Zero-one's bike is formed from Zero's phone
-Zero-one gets a mecha. Probably for the CGI battles like the Time Majins in Zi-O

According to Dacre Montgomery, who played the Red Ranger in the 2017 movie, they are working on another Power Rangers movie, but it will have a completely different cast.
I'm disappointed, but I can understand, even though it actually ended up being pretty good, the last one was a flop.

Considering how popular Stranger Things is now, if they do another Power Rangers movie, they should double down on existing cast, at least Dacre Montgomery who at least now people will recognize as that guy from Stranger Things. I can't imagine another reboot doing any better than 2017 movie did. Double down, market it more, remove some of the elements that didn't work. The cast was definitely no the problem with the previous movie.

Naomi Scott, who just played Jasmine in the live action Aladdin was also in it as the Pink Ranger. She'd probably be a bit more of a draw too now.
But I have to wonder if there is enough interest in the franchise in general for a movie to make the kind of numbers they are probably going to want. It's also only been 2 years since the other one, and I can't really see there being any more interest in MMPR when this comes out than there was in the other one did.

I believe it when I see it.

New picture reveals an obvious breast plate design on Valkyrie

As for a new power ranger movie I don’t see the draw for it either.

A new cast would be a nice call back to power rangers and super sentai changing

I just hope if they go that route they don’t kill the 2017 cast for shock value

The kaiju/ giant robot genre just isn’t catching fire with audiences with pacific rim and Godzilla KOM under performing

Yeah, I'm still not convinced. A year ago people thought Zi-O was female also pointing at the chest area.

I love the 2017 Power Rangers cast! What a wonderful group of people. The movie also had decent character story arcs and such. I just disliked the Suit/Zord/Alpha5 designs.

I understand Hasbro wanting to reboot it, but wish they'd done so with THAT cast!

Nice to Kaitou return. I'm surprised that Decade/Tsukaya has been so prominent in Zi-O

LOL at Sougo correcting Geiz. "He's Magenta. Not Pink"

Finally the truth comes out that Tsukuyomi is Swartz sister. Once again the OP foreshadows future plot details.

Ryuusoulger 16

https://www.mp4upload.com/8ykx4wpbf2t0

Wow. Gachireus didn't last long. KishiRyu Neptune battle was pretty cool to see even the Mosa Rex formation wasn't that complicated

The suggestion that the Ryusoulgers might have less than honorable intentions is a bold one

Glad Asuna got a small role in this episode. It was generic, but at least she got something i guess XD

Better look at Zero-One

The face IMO looks more sinister/meaner than any previous 2000-2019 heisei rider. Maybe it's the dark red eyes.

After all the bulky designs of the past few years it's refreshing to see a minimal suit

He blends Showa and updated aesthetics nicely. Its a nice touch that his insect base is the grasshopper as that has precedence for Kamen Rider

New catalog page reveals that the rkf zero-one figure has form changes, also a better look at the other forms :

First four forms are called

Flying Falcon, Biting Shark, Flaming Tiger, Freezing Bear

Press conference will be next Wednesday July 17th

Biggest surprise are a partial team up with past Dino rangers and Austin St. John in the team up!

I wonder how much they'll use if any of the Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger vs. Go-Busters teamup

Zi-O 43

https://www.mp4upload.com/ho07w0dcshjy

That was some rider kick. It was so powerful it resets time. Nice touch with Another Kuuga being just like the Kamen Rider Heisei Generations FOREVER version.

The Decade vs Diend fight was cut short, but only because Swartz helped bring about the last two Another Riders left to show off

I don't think Another Decade will be the final boss of the series though. They usually like to unveil some other form or final monster boss intricate suit

Ryusoulger episode 17

https://www.mp4upload.com/pu23wyzjvc1s

Pretty good episode. Interesting to learn that MosaRex and DimeVolcano are brothers that can form a Spinosaurus type formation

Nice to show Canalo getting better at working with others, though his brief truce with Banba this week spills into a fight against him next week. They remembered Tigerlance formation

Sand. Get's into everything

Hmm. Looking a bit like Marvel Studio's opening aren't we Toei? and A.I.M.S?

Our new rider (Hiden Aruto) when he's excited sounds alot like LupinRed/Kairi from Lupinranger VS Patoranger

First impressions are that this is what Sento from Build would become if there was no Skywall.

That must suck to be the CEO whose androids are being used by terrorists for evil purposes

Terrorists on one side
Government intervention on the other

Surprisingly lite on the humor beside the "I'm the CEO?!?" Apparently Aruto wanted to be a comedian but due to his grandfather will he is sworn in as the the new CEO

Hooray to progress! or should I say......prog rise ? A female Kamen Rider right at the start

The show will be produced by Chihiro Inoue of TV Asahi and Takahito Omori of Toei, who produced Kamen Rider Drive, Ex-Aid, and Build. Yuya Takahashi, chief writer for Lupin III Part 4 and Kamen Rider Ex-Aid will serve as writer.

Jun Watanabe will take over as action director, a role previously held by Takeshi Miyazaki on 13 of the 20 Heisei Kamen Rider series, with his most recent run being Kamen Rider Ghost through Zi-O.

Go Sakabe, who served as composer on Kamen Rider Ghost, will return to compose for Zero-One.

Yeah, I'm still not convinced. A year ago people thought Zi-O was female also pointing at the chest area.

You were saying?

I dunno... I think that without the experiences that changed him, he would've gone down a darker path.

I'm reminded of AMC's Humans, with ubiquitous android servants changing society. I wonder if the show will get into issues of AIs' consciousness and right to exist, like Drive and Ex-Aid did. But it's also building on the "Technological Singularity" idea.

And the name Zero-One isn't just a reference to the first year/Rider of the Reiwa era, but to binary code and computing. I guess that makes sense.

Yes! Finally, finally.

Hmm. I was lukewarm on Ex-Aid. It wasn't bad, but it felt like a rehash of things they'd done before.

Go Sakabe, who served as composer on Kamen Rider Ghost, will return to compose for Zero-One.

That's good news. Ghost had some terrific music.

Ex-Aid/Zero-One's writer was having fun on Twitter the other day, saying

"Huh, so Christmas is on a Wednesday this year,"

For those that don't know

Takahashi wrote the infamous Ex-Aid episode where the character Kiriya is killed at Christmas, which upset a lot of the kids watching and caused complaints from parents. He's implying this year will be okay since there won't be an episode airing at Christmas

Zi-O: I think I mentioned a while back that I wondered if Schwartz was secretly helping Sougo by sending all these Another Riders against him so he could acquire all the Heisei Riders' powers and become Oma Zi-O. Now it turns out that Schwartz wants to be king himself, so I'm more confused than ever about his real goals. If he just wanted to take Sougo's accumulated powers, he could've taken the Grand Zi-O Watch from Diend. So it's all gotten very confusing. I hope the writers do have a clear explanation that will be revealed in time.

The depiction of Grand Zi-O's powers has been inconsistently handled. In his big debut, he used all his flashy new powers to defeat a single fairly routine opponent. But now, he's up against all of the Another Riders at once and he basically just uses routine fight moves, not using any of the fancy Rider-summoning powers until the finisher. It's weird. It might've been better to save his acquisition of that full power set until here, when he was facing a set of opponents worthy of its debut.

Next week, they're doing a twist on the "future Rider" formula by bringing back the first future Rider (that I know of), Kamen Rider Aqua, who debuted in the OOO/Fourze crossover movie in 2011. Nice touch tying into that.

Ryusoulger: Pretty effective episode, with unusual challenges for the heroes and the Kishiryuu to overcome. The two "brothers" combining into one creature was kind of weird, though. And how can they even be brothers? Mosasaurs weren't even dinosaurs, but a distinct, related taxonomic order. I know, I shouldn't expect logic or science, but still.

Speaking of science, it was pretty out of character for Melto, the smart one, to make that foolish mistake of making the sand wet. Why not use a wind Ryusoul and blow the sand away?

I was a bit surprised that Wizeru was still alive. I guess the meaner Druidon just sort of drove him away for a while.

https://comicbook.com/powerrangers/...-st-john-red-ranger-why-returned-beast-morph/

The Power Rangers franchise is packed with classic Rangers that fans love, and few are more legendary than the original Red Ranger himself Austin St. John. St. John appeared as Jason Lee Scott in the first two seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and then would eventually return as the Zeo Gold Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo. Aside from an appearance here and there though it's been some time since he was part of the show, but that's all changing thanks to a special coming up in Beast Morphers, and ComicBook.com had the chance to chat with St. John all about it, including why he decided to come back after so many years away.

"They've (fans) been hitting me up for, every year, everywhere I go in the world they're like 'when you coming back, when you coming back', or 'we're tired of seeing the same faces, when are you coming back?', and I'm like 'I'm picky'," St. John said. "Ya know, it's gotta be like my jam and it's gotta be written well and I've had invitations every year from the show including from when I was overseas for the war I had an invitation."

As for what eventually sealed the deal, it was a combination of factors, with two of the biggest ones being a reunion with some old friends and a compelling story.

"Chip, who is the EP, executive producer, reached out to me on this one and I worked with him 25 years ago, so it was kind of right time, right vibe, and he gave me the idea for the storyline and I was like 'whoooaa, people are going to love that. The fans are gonna go crazy.' It's good," St. John said.

It wasn't just Judd "Chip" Lynn he would reunite with, and it never hurts to be in a place like New Zealand.

"Well I only like to work with people that I know, and Chip was, he's one of my original crew from back in the day, and then he dropped another couple of names," St. John said. "Sean the DP for the second unit and some of the stunt guys. I was like 'oh my gosh, I'd love to see these guys.' And New Zealand, I hadn't been to New Zealand. So let's check this out, that won't suck, ya know. So I got to see New Zealand, see some old faces, meet a lot of the new guys, and the story I liked, so it's going to have people on the edge of their seats."

Power Rangers Beast Morphers airs Saturdays on Nickelodeon at 8 am est, and the Austin St. John guest-starring episode (or episodes) will debut next year.

Jason Scott (Austin St. John): still my favorite Ranger after all these years :)
