Has there been any word on why TPTB have chosen to make the next Short Treks animated?

Or a "Supermarionation" Episode. Too bad Gerry Anderson is dead; I would have loved to see the set miniature models.

BTW, Admittedly it was your mention of Parker and Stone -namely their "Team America: World Police", which was an homage to Gerry Anderson's supermarionation -- that made me think of this.

The Stargate SG1 puppet sequence in their 200th episode is a guilty pleasure of mine. They used the same company they helped make Team America IIRC

Since they are already doing the lower decks animated series, and supposedly a kiddie animated series I would have preferred to keep Short Treks as a live action show. But I guess this gives them greater flexibility. No big deal.

Like others have already said animation gives them more freedom when it comes to setting as they don't rely on standing sets but it could also be a chance test different animation styles and how they are received by the audience.

Maybe they don't want to be constrained by having to reuse existing sets.

The first four Short Treks used the DSC sets so it was easiest to set them all in DSC's time. That restriction won't apply to the animated ones.

The last two didn't re-use a ton of sets, particularly the Saru one.

Maybe each episode will use a different style of animation.

That's a great idea, like that IDW comic, whose name I'm forgetting (it was an anthology that included the life story of the crew woman who was killed in "By Any Other Name"), which had a different style for each story. Probably too expensive to do.

I personally am not fond of anime style, but I know I'm in the minority on that, and will have an open mind.

I hope to see different animation styles in the animated Short Treks, in Lower Decks and others.

Really I want the trippy 70's-style animation from the Star Wars Holiday Special.

Ability to produce more material without having to use studio space in Toronto?

I thought the Saru one re-used that set of that Saru-centric episode this season? I mean, they built it already for season 2 when the short was filmed, right?

I can't think of a single animated TV show that I like. Certainly no 'serious' ones. I've liked odd episodes of The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama and South Park but have been very disappointed by Clone Wars, Resistance and Rebels which I've watched a fair bit.

Some movies are definitely good - early Pixar, Spiderverse etc., but not television. I don't think it works for drama.

They need to do this shit Clutch Cargo style.

Batman: TAS is the superlative example of animation working for well for dramatic television.

This is one of my favorite television shows of all time.

It's my favorite version of Batman. It's amazing that they could do such high quality stories with a running time slightly north of 20 minutes. The voice casting was inspired. Hell, the music was even great.

I should add that my son tried to get me into anime with Cowboy Bebop.

No. Really no.
