Not a complaint, just simple curiosity, but has the "Shorts HD" channel become an anime network?
Sunday I selected the channel about 2:40 PM to catch what the "Animate" segment was presenting. Usually it is something from the Canadian Film Board or maybe "clay-mation" from Europe. Instead, it was a Japanese anime. I thought, "Hmm, that's different." However, the segment concluded upon a cliffhanger of sorts. Odd thing to do for a "short subject". But as soon as the closing credits finished, another "episode" of the same material started. Well, the on-screen guide did indicate "Animate" had two more slots until 4 PM. 3 more episodes were squeezed into that hour (no commercials to pad things), but when it struck 4, yet another episode started. Yet the grid listing stated something else should be airing. This series, titled "Spice and Wolf" turned out to be a marathon running until 10 PM! At that time, an entertainment news review aired.
Yesterday, a similar thing happened. I got home around 6:30. I turned on the set which was still tuned to "Shorts" and I caught the tail end of some anime dealing with quasi "Street Fighter" type characters (though I could tell mit was not that specific property. As soon as it concluded, "Full Metal Alchemist" started. It seemed to be a retelling of their first major adventure (when they encounter an alchemist deceiving a town, having them believe he is a miracle worker). I could tell it was a different presentation from the one aired on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. I didn't bother watching, but I switched on the set just after 10 as I was getting ready to retire and saw it was still playing.
Around 2 AM, I arose to use the bathroom and curiosity compelled me to check th channel. It was something in B/W seemingly filmed in the 1950s. I didn't stay up to follow the narrative.
But, just before I left my house for my job, I flipped on the set at 7:40. It looked to be another episode of that fighting characters presentation I glimpsed last night. I missed the title, but I did notice it was distributed by Funimation. Funimation also distributes "Full Metal Alchemist" and "Spice and Wolf".
I checked the official web page for "Shorts" and I could not find anything relating to anime being aired, neither short subjects nor marathons. Does anyone know what's going on?
Sincerely,
Bill
