Has startrek.com been abandoned?

First the forums go. Then two months ago the links to the episodes get messed up and you can only link to the first season of each series. If they are not going to maintain the sight they should take it down rather than make it suffer slow disintegration.

Don't you remember when the entire startrek.com team got "laid off" almost two years ago?

Really? But then I stopped visiting years ago as it just wasn't as active as it was back with the chat rooms etc.

Indicative of CBS's attitude toward Star Trek since they acquired the brand.

Ask some randomly assembled focus group what they consider to be Star Trek, exploit the hell out of their answer and throw the rest away.

startrek.com forum is still active, but it's a joke. It's got "moderators" which stop by like once or twice a month, issue some unexplained bans, delete some posts and ignore trolls. And there's no way to contact any of them.

There are dozens of trolls there, some of which even registered here and tried to stir up sh#t occasionally.

I used to be a regular over there-- hell I joined the site the year it first opened-- up till the last few months. Whole thing as devolved into petty personal bullshit, cliques and bitching and whining about duals, bans, and whose fanrun messageboard is the "cool kids table".

Best thing to do if CBS isn't going to outlay the scratch to keep the site and forums up and running properly is scrap everything but a front splash-page with links to various DVD or Book/Comic releases and links to the online TOS episodes. The rest of the content really isn't needed at this point and serves little to no purpose; having long ago been surpassed by sites like trekmovie and memory-alpha.

It's not bad, but they've had the same messed up design for years now. With the new Star Trek relaunch movie, they should spiffy it up.

Right now it's all a jumble.
