Has anyone started watching Voyager again?

I think VOY was a victim of high expectations at the time
Yes, it was, for me. But not because of TNG (I didn't really watch it) or DS9 (didn't watch it until Trials and Tribble-ations). The pilot was an excellent episode, set up a lot of drama, conflict and interesting characters. And it just fizzled.

I still like Paris and Torres though.

Yes i have for the first time since it ended in 2001-2 and tbh i thoroughly enjoyed it and noticed things about the show i never noticed first time round and episodes that didn't really matter the first time around seemed more important this time, i guess in part owing to the fact that i am now 50 something and see life differently.

I always felt the opposite to that for the most part. They did have good two parters, but for me usually the part 1 was fantastic, but the part 2 seemed to fizzle and not live up to the previous episode.

Hmm, interesting. Off the top of my head I remember Year of Hell ending with the entirely predicable reset button but I don't remember the second part being significantly worse than the first. The Killing Game second part was definitely not as good though. I need to re-watch.

Yea, it's the only thing that's keeping my interest in Netflix, watching episodes in reverse order though, rewatched Enterprise last month, going to try watching the animated series next- never watched it

I did that with Dallas. I admit I'm a big Dallas fan and I have the entire series on DVD. I had already seen it twice through (once back in the 90s when it was on TNN, then when I got it on DVD). So the last time I watched it about 2 or 3 years ago I started from the last episode and went backwards.

It was interesting, you sort of see the storyline deconstructed. And you also see a number of characters and sets in their last episode appearance, some of which you didn't realize at the time was their last appearance. For instance, I saw the last time the Cattleman's Club made an appearance. Since they don't actually indicate it's the last time you'd see it, it's just sort of forgotten about. Things like that. Plus it's interesting to see story resolutions go in reverse.

TAS is a LOT of fun and even a bad episode is over and done in twenty-odd minutes.

I only marathoned Voyager once in the mid-00s when I did the whole lot from TOS to ENT, but were I to do a binge watch of a whole Trek show again, I'd be most interested in doing Voyager. For me it has the best characters coupled with worst potential utilisation of those characters. It's a fascinating, beautiful car crash of a show.

My wife and I are just starting a rewatch of VOYAGER... old hat for me, brand new for her. Watched "CARETAKER" and "PARALLAX" already.

I love the fact I have turned my wife into a Trekkie. (Though she will never watch TOS.)

It's hard to get some people to give TOS a chance because it just looks "old." The stories are solid but they just can't get over the visuals.

I couldn't get into the show the first time around but watching this again I find myself appreciating it a lot more then I did when I first watched the series many years ago.
Same for me. It's now my favorite of them all. Something clicked for me when in quarantine and the crew of the voyager, lost out there in the delta quadrant, seemed to resonate with me. Captain Janeway is who I look for in managers now.

I had posed a question once about whether they should redo the animation for the animated series, sort of like the remastered original series. I'd keep the voices mostly (maybe change some other characters so not everyone sounded like Scotty, Uhura and Chapel ;) ) and the music, but just update the animation. But it seemed most people thought it would be a waste of time for Paramount to do.

Not sure how much that would cost Paramount and how much return they would see for it. But it'd be interesting to see them do maybe one episode, see what it would look like and what kind of response there is.

Not holding out any hope for that though. I also live in hope, however unlikely it is, that Paramount someday will upgrade the effects to TFF. That probably has more chance then an animated series upgrade.

Every few months I watch a few episodes but they always seem to be the same ones so recently I've been trying a lucky dip and will pick a DVD at random and then watch all four episodes. It's made me realise that despite watching it when it was first aired and having all the seasons on VHS and then DVD there are still some episodes I have no memory of. There are a few episodes I don't like but for the pathetic reason that they are a bit scary.

I'm curious too. Which ones did you find scary?

For me TNG "Schisms" that eeks me out every time I watch it.
