Has anyone played Star Trek:Fleet Captains?

So I was at my local comic book shop checking out the board games they have in the basement, and I saw Star Trek:Fleet Captains. I read the back but I didn't really get much info off that so has anyone played the game? And if so whats it like? How long dose it last, What's the objective? Did you have fun? Would you recommend it for a game night?

Any info will be a big help. Thanks.

I haven't played--my FLGSs have copies, but I rarely have the time--but it is a highly regarded game, generally seen as one of the best sci-fi/space exploration games. From it's reputation, I would say go ahead and play it. If you are looking for something to buy, wait until early next year: WizKids is making a new game, Star Trek Frontiers, that will likely replace Fleet Captains. It's being designed by Andrew Park, implementing some aspects of Vlaada Chvatl's Mage Knight.

Thanks. I didn't know they were making a new trek board game. Something I can look forward to now.

Actually, two will come out next year. Gale Force 9 will publish a game during the summer, but they haven't said anything yet about the design.

Fleet Captains is excellent. It's pricey and a bit restrictive with players, but at least with the Romulan expansion it opens up a large number of possibilities. Haven't tried the Cardassian expansion yet. Worth the price put into it, and I'd say it's worth finding someone to paint your minis for you.
