Just a question about future Trek series/novels.

I just finished reading the Worlds of Deep Space Nine series, and I loved how they both delved into the culture of the races being discussed further than ever before, and also continuing the DS9 relaunch stories.

Has anyone ever considered doing something like this for Voyager?

Now that Voyager and the Full Circle fleet are back in the Delta Quadrant, the potential for running into some "old friends" is definitely something worth exploring.

I have a few ideas about a two or three novel series, like WoDS9, that would both explore the cultures of the species i'm thinking about deeper than ever seen on Voyager, and additionally taking their story lines and watching how the species develops after the encounter/encounters with Voyager. I've even got a few ideas running through my head that would allow the series to begin at a pivotal moment in one species history, and would bring the entire story arc into the 2381/2382 timeframe that the Voyager relaunch currently operates in.

Thoughts??

I'm sure one of the main reasons Voyager returned to the DQ was to tell follow-up stories on the episodes.

Although they were terrible villains, I'd like to know what became of the Kazon. They were left with one of Voyager's infinite supply of shuttlecraft (albeit with the computer wiped) and I'd imagine they've reverse-engineered some of it's technology by now.

Were the Vidiians really cured by the Think Tank? If so, at what price?

...and so forth.

And, of course, novels allow alien cultures to be explored in far more depth than a couple of 40-minute episodes.

I've been rolling some ideas around in my head to see if such a story can be constructed, and I am definitely considering the first region Voyager meandered through to be one of great potential for story telling.

Definitely agree that revisiting the Viidians after the Think Tank cured the Phage in 2374 would be a fun way to go, as this would no doubt totally revolutionize the Sodality in innumerable ways.

The Kazon, also not a favorite villain of mine, nevertheless can provide several potentials to this type of novel/novels as well. Indeed, they have the Starfleet shuttle, you have Mahj Culluh's fallout of failing to retain Voyager, you have Culluh and Seska's child, the issues with the Trabe... those things didn't go away just because Voyager left their space. I think it would be interesting to revisit those plot points as well.

I'm also looking at Talax and Ocampa as potentials. With Talax, there is the Haakonian Occupation to consider. I don't want to make it another Bajor, but surely something can be done here as well to delve into Talaxian culture.

Ocampa, IMO, has massive potential for the timeline in that thier power supply is destined to run out in 2376, and after that point the race must journey to the surface. Can the Ocampa learn to survive on the surface again? Are the Kazon-Ogla still attempting to find them?

I would love to see a follow up on the Voth. I know they've popped up in a couple of stories, but I don't think any of them are a true follow up to "Distant Origin". I'd loved to see the Vaadwaur again too.

I hadn't considered the Voth in my initial story lines, but come to think of it they would certainly be an interesting tale to tell if an idea could be found on how to sufficiently challenge Doctrine to enact large scale disruption amongst the culture.

Additionally, the disappearance of the Borg, it's entirely possible the Voth might have expanded into what used to be Borg space, given the proximity.

The Vaadwaur are one of my FAVORITE Voyager villains, despite only appearing once, and I feel that all the ships that disappeared into the subspace conduits in mid-2376 are bound to pop up somewhere. While I hadn't initally thought of the Vaadwaur making an appearance in the series I'm looking at, their subspace conduits could be an exploitable potential.

The Vaadwaur were mentioned a few times in the series, but I always felt they were a bit of a joke enemy...

they're 900 years out of date, it'd be a bit like William the Conquerer landing in England today and expecting to still be able to win a battle and Harry the north...

and before I get some pedant saying "but the Vaadwaur were more advanced so they could still be a threat"

Rubbish! I left my car out for 3 months while I was away at university. When I got back the damn thing's tyres were down and the battery was dead. The Vaadwaur fleet should have tried to engage their warp engines and all either blown up, stalled or atomised...

The Voth did appear in the absolutely brilliant Myriad Universe tale Places of Exile.

Kestrel, I LOVE that particular Myriad Universes novel. CLB did a great job establishing the Voth in that novel, and this is, in fact, one of the reasons I didn't want to delve too deeply into the Voth when I was considering races for this series. It would be so much rehashing of what Chris Bennett established in that continuity that there wouldn't be much for me to make my own.

True, but the novels are only held to the canon of the show. The fact that they're trying to be internally consistent and in the same timeline is just the writers and editors' choice. After all, in Crucible: McCoy, McCoy passed away peacefully I believe shortly before Spock left for Romulus while A Singular Destiny had him still kicking and whacking these whippersnapping doctors with his cane.

Although posting actual story ideas isn't allowed, I don't think there's anything wrong with saying "I'd like follow ups on a few Voyager episodes"
