Has Anyone Changed Their Mind About The Movie?

I still love the latest movie, but are there any people here that have changed their minds? Are there any haters that love it or vice versa?

No. If anything, I've grown less fond of the film the longer it's been since I watched it. I will say that I've not seen it since it was in theaters, so I don't know if I'd feel any differently now. I do not, however, feel any desire to sit through it again to find out.

No change here. Thought it was inane when I watched it the first time and my opinion hasn't changed.

I've gone back and forth on it.

- Disliked it the first time I saw it (not helped by it being at IMAX at midnight; action scenes were near-impossible to follow).
- Liked it the second time (could actually follow the action scenes this time)
- Disliked it the third time (had time to actually sit back and think about it, and it started to bug me
- Really disliked it the fourth time (watched it with a non-Trek fan, which always makes me self-conscious, and on DVD, which negates the impact of the effects and sound. She picked up most of the things that bugged me, too)

I suppose ultimately I'm just disappointed. I wanted two things for this film - to be a stand-alone success, and, more importantly, to revive awareness in the wider Star Trek...I hate the word, but "franchise".

It did the former, certainly, but I feel it failed at the latter. I head to local bookstores, and there's even fewer Trek books than before. The TV series and movies haven't had a sudden jump in interest. Nobody I know has suddenly become a Trek fan, or has expressed any sort of interest in the series. Maybe that colours my perception of the film a bit as well.

I really, really liked it the first time I saw it. I've now seen the movie literally over 15 times and so I like it a little less. Especially since I'm now more knowledgeable about Star Trek, I can see a lot of flaws that I didn't see the first time. But I still like it. It's the kind of movie I like to put on in the background while I'm doing something else. It's just a fun movie, I think. I think some people forgot that sometimes Star Trek can be philosophical and serious, but other times it can be fun and fast. And both can be good.

I'm just one person and so maybe I'm just a fluke, but I became a convert after watching the new movie. I've now read a couple of star trek books, and I've seen all of TOS and a fair amount of TNG. So, while maybe not a large percent of people were converted by the new star trek movie, some were. We who are young needed our own version of Star Trek to keep the franchise going.

My first impression was that it was a dumb, loud, obnoxious, kinda generic action flick. Good in some places, cringe worthy in others. Despite the many flaws, it was still an improvement over Voyager, Enterprise and most of the TNG flicks.

My opinion of it today is pretty much the same.

My impression has changed little.

It had a great opening, great casting, some good scenes and lots and lots of carelessness, weak storytelling and, to coin an old phrase, plot holes you could drive a starship through.

Ahh, an advantage over a lot of previous Trek. :techman:

I always thought this was a very entertaining movie despite some plot shortcomings. But I like the new interpretations of the characters, I like the ships, I like the sets, I like the way the film was shot - everything was done to a high standard. I felt that way the first time I saw it and every time since, though I do have to let a lot of plot problems slide - which I am more than willing to do because the film is just so enjoyable.

Seven or eight out of ten as it's really just a big dumb summer movie and I judged it as such. Very enjoyable, but doesn't stand up to scrutiny. This is how I thought back then and is still my opinion.

Been on the fence since the Summer of '09. Great directing and casting... shitty story.
