Harry's Law season 2:

It was good! I really hope they start focusing more on characters instead of cases, but yes, it was quite good!

Yay, we got rid of that plot-line (I hope) ... Now, can we please move back to the shoe-store/law-firm with small, neighborhood-affecting cases?

the conclusion to this case was fucking awesome. I am not saying anything till the rest of you have seen it. and you'll say OMFG!!

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

I didn't quite get why she did it. Got distracted in the end. Anyone who can clarify?

Her motives weren't exactly clear to me either. I assume it was alluding to some information shared in a previous episode but I couldn't figure it out either.

Loved Harry's reaction to the way it ended, she was about as blown away as anybody. Despite some of the complaints about the changes to this show this season, I've really enjoyed this 3 episode arc. But I see from Jax's ratings thread for last night, maybe I shouldn't get attached to it. :(

Well, I am pleasantly surprised about this season. I was somewhat disappointed w/ Season 1, as I expected the same level of writing in this show that I saw in Boston Legal. I just didn't see the chemistry there. And while Boston Legal would attack various social/political issues, there was a balance there and was written in such a way that it wasn't too terribly preachy, despite Allan Shore's best efforts to push it there, there were always balances to reign him in like Denny & the others.

I felt that the first season of Harry went REALLY overboard with the social commentary, and found it a bit of a turn-off, particularly with the gangster stuff. This season, however, seems to have started off with a bang and delivered a great murder mystery, excellent writing and the chemistry now seems to be cooking.

Looks like next week we're going back to the social issue of the week, in the form of bullying. An important subject to be sure, but I'm hoping that the writers will take what they have learned and not revert back into a season 1 shmaltz treatment.

I still sorely miss Boston Legal, but this will do in a pinch. I keep expecting Denny Crane to walk in the courtroom wearing colonial garb, carrying a musket and telling Harry "mine's bigger than yours".

The only thing I can think of is both the kids are certifiably insane. She's a sociopath and the brother is bi-polar and quite detached from reality.

Some of the things she said you could infer the direct opposite was true, how much "mommy and daddy" loved her soooooo much. She was clearly living in an extremely dysfunctional family which no doubt took a serious toll on the kids' mental health.

Say what? I quit watching that show because I got concussions from them beating me over the head each week with their political point of view.

I am hoping they'll continue da scandell story. which was awesome. I CAN'T figure out why the daughter killed he mother so grusomelly.

They kept hammering on that the mother was an unlikable, horrid woman, and that Dad was a milquetoast (outside of his fantasy journal). She killed her for the same reason the housekeeper put a rat in her bed and Doc Ock fantasized about bashing her brains in but never actually did anything; she was a domineering bitch.

They didn't say what finally set her off, or if she'd been planning it for years, but they laid enough groundwork for us to figure out why she had it in for the both of them, and her sarcastic anti-confession at the end confirmed it. Mommy dearest was, well, "Mommy Dearest," and the father never did anything to stop her.

Good observations. I'd kind of lost sight of what kind of person the mother was, hard to think of her as anything other than the victim.

I guess it's a matter of perspective - as I said in my other post, yes, they did push the envelope on social-political commentary, but I found that they were able to accomplish a better balancing act there, usually in the form of Denny. I guess to some, that wouldn't be enough, but in HL, I'm assuming the role of the quirky and scattered conservative is being covered by Tommy Jefferson, but he just doesn't have the gravitas that Crane did in those scenes. And, in the interest of full disclosure, my man-love for Shatner does color my vision in that regard. :D

I'm guessing we probably share quite different political viewpoints, hence the difference in our perspectives. :)

I'm not sure Tommy Jefferson really counts as a "conservative." He may have looked that way at the beginning, with his shameless mongering in pursuit of the almighty dollar and his over-the-top flag-waving, but I think he's fairly apolitical. He has pictures with Clinton, Bush, and Obama all on his wall, and admitted they had less to do with his own merits than they did with his willingness to make sizable campaign contributions. Tommy Jefferson is all about Tommy Jefferson, and I doubt that he has very strong beliefs about how the larger world should be. He just wants to make sure he's a big deal in it.

The amoral, slightly senile, sexual harasser was their token conservative. Yeah, that's balance.

I lvoe Boston Legal.

There was nothing balanced. Unless we are talkign about Fox News' version of balance.

He sure was. Thing is, there were often times when Denny ended up being right (no pun intended), even when logic seemed against his likelihood of success. Denny kept Alan grounded, and Alan gave Denny much needed companionship and a friendly ear.

Glad they finally finished this arc so that maybe we can get back to the charm of the first season, but from the looks of next week's preview I doubt things are going to improve. Ugh, why do they have to ruin great shows like this! Now it's just another generic case-of-the-week lawyer show, instead of being about the quirky and fun characters. I also really liked the balance of the older characters (Tommy Jefferson and Harry) with the younger ones (Jenna and Malcolm), with the Nate Corddry character bringing them both together in the middle. Now we get a bunch of old lawyers talking about cases....boring! And done before. I'm so irritated that they changed every good thing about this show.
